Is it difficult for yourself to connect to your emotions and feelings? Sometimes it is complicated to find a link to enable us express freely. Unintentionally, we can create a habit in which we suppress, run away, deny or manipulate our emotions. It is normal to try to push away feelings of discomfort like stress, fear or pain; but there are tools you can learn to help you cope with these emotions in a healthy way. Instead of denying, distracting yourself, manipulating or disconnecting, you can accept, observe, acknowledge and connect deeply with your feelings.

I have experience and specialise in helping clients heal from trauma and adverse childhood events, navigate relationship difficulties (including dating app dilemmas), patterns of attachment and help to build self-esteem and confidence. My approach is warm, non-judgmental, and insight-driven, helping my clients understand how past experiences may be impacting their life today, and more importantly, what they can do to move forward. Feeling stuck in life can stop us from being the best version of ourselves, and while we can't change the past, we can most certainly influence what happens next.

If you find yourself stuck, in a job, in a relationship, in any repetitive behaviour patterns, then perhaps you are ready to start understanding why. If you are prepared and ready to explore your internal world and are committed to being reflective and honest with yourself, then you have come to the right place. Although this kind of work may sound quite demanding it is potentially very rewarding and will bring long lasting benefits.

I see clients with a range of difficulties across the lifespan who find themselves in psychological distress and are looking for an understanding and solution to their difficulties. These difficulties may have been lifelong or more recently acquired. They may be showing clinical symptoms such as depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress, or OCD as a result. They may want longer term therapy to work on themselves more deeply or they may want short term therapy that is focussed on resolving more specific issues.

Life can be a whole lot harder and more overwhelming than many like to admit, and reaching out for support is no easy task. So well done on getting this far- you don't have to struggle on your own anymore. The therapy I offer is an opportunity to share your truth and be seen, in the compassionate, non-judgemental space I hold for you each week. I will endeavour to be alongside you with whatever it is you need to share, whatever the emotional weather. Together we will begin to question old narratives that no longer serve you and look at how you operate in the world, in relationship and how you find meaning.

I integrate attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, somatic approaches, and psychoanalytic thinking to support individuals in understanding not only their symptoms, but also the relational patterns.
My ideal clients are adults, parents, and professionals who are seeking to understand themselves more deeply, especially through the lens of attachment, trauma, emotional regulation, and relational patterns. Many come to my practice feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, stuck in repeated relationship dynamics, or carrying the impact of childhood experiences that still shape their present life. Through attachment-informed, trauma-sensitive, somatic, and psychoeducational approaches, I support clients in developing greater self-awareness, nervous system regulation, emotional resilience.

As a psychodynamic therapist, I use a combination of psychoanalytic theories and concepts in my work, working towards meaningful and lasting change.
There are many reasons why we find ourselves in search of a therapist. You might have come to a point in life where you are in search of answers that you would like to explore together in therapy. Perhaps you have noticed patterns over time that you would like to understand better. It could be that you have come to a realisation that something just needs to change or that things just aren't working anymore in the way that they used to.

My therapeutic approach is mainly relational with a psychoanalytic theoretical base.
I am a qualified Psychologist and psychotherapist from Brazil, and I am very passionate about therapeutic interventions that vary from deep psychological interventions based on the client's history and memories, to an emphasis on the relationship between therapist and client, including their cultural context and systems. I am also very interested in using symbolic representations and meanings in the therapeutic setting to assist clients on their reflections and self-awareness. I have worked in a variety of settings including psychiatric hospitals, voluntary LGBTQ organisations, as well as the private and educational sectors.

I am a psychodynamic, integrative psychotherapist and counsellor and member of the BACP. Community care is important and I work for the NHS and a bereavement service, where I have seen a broad range of people with complex issues. I can offer sessions from my therapy room in central Brighton or through walking/talking therapy in a private countryside setting near Lewes as well as online sessions. By moving and talking and not being stuck in a therapy chair, it can often offer deeper insight with issues you are struggling with through the peace, beauty and privacy that this unique setting provides.

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
