I also have experience working with depression, anxiety, self-harm,
relationship
problems and significant trauma.
Hello, and thanks for visiting. I'm Laura and I'm trained as an Integrative Psychotherapist. I'm a firm believer that each person is uniquely individual, and any therapeutic help they receive should be tailored to them, and their needs. Being Integrative means I'm not set on one school of thought, and work with you to find what approach fits best for you. You're in control of the sessions, you can bring whatever issues you'd like to discuss, , we go at a pace you're comfortable with. We'll look at working together to set realistic goals, based on what you'd like to achieve.

If you feel stuck or at a loss with your life, perhaps due to past or present experiences (for example
relationship
difficulties, illness, work problems, losses); or if thoughts and emotions are difficult to bear (maybe resulting in feelings of anxiety, depression, loneliness or emptiness), you might benefit from talking – sharing with somebody who is there just for you, unbiased and non-judgemental. We would work at building a therapeutic
relationship
based on mutual trust and respect so that a safe and protected space can be created.

Art Therapy is an effective way to address personal challenges and develop self understanding, confidence and compassion. It is suitable for all ages and abilities and no art skills are needed to engage with the process. I encourage clients to make use of the materials provided during sessions which can help to externalise and visualise emotions which can be difficult or impossible to express in words. This can enable clients to reflect and process things which they may not even be aware are holding them back.

Growing up neurodivergent (ND) can have an influence on your ability to connect, express emotions, feel whole & valuable due to society wanting you to conform to neurotypical (NT) standards. You may be realising the effects of growing up as an ND child especially if you were diagnosed as an adult, or you may be struggling to let go of the NT standards & thrive as a ND adult. Counselling is a great place to build a secure sense of self that helps you feel calm & centred through the difficult times. Together we can heal the disconnection, build coping strategies to recover from burnout & develop strength from the challenges you face.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
