You come to me because you desire impactive integrative counselling and psychotherapy with aspects of personal coaching and mentoring. My approach is predominately analytical, seeking to identify and treat the causes of symptoms, both conscious and unconscious. Such insights reduce repeated patterns of thinking and behaviours that cause depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. With a background in philosophy, linguistics and the law we use a socratic but person-centred approach which established what you want to achieve before agreeing a bespoke plan for treatment.

I have over 10 years of experience within mental health settings in the NHS and private settings, qualifying as a clinical psychologist in 2018. I believe therapy is about building a non-judgemental and trusting relationship, where we can work together to make sense of your mental health symptoms and find ways to develop more awareness and ways to cope. Finding the right psychological approach is key to the smooth running of this process. Therefore, I utilise a range of psychological approaches that I adapt to suit you. My aim within therapy will be to be curious, empathetic and honest and draw on individual strengths.

Hi my name is Dawn. I have been a Counselling Professional since 2005 but more importantly a human being. I have a lived experience of depression and life and how we build building blocks, one upon the other, carrying all these blocks within us. I have a depth of experience both professionally and personally especially with mental health issues with children and adults. I am also an empath and often see links between empaths and depression. I am very creative and grounded. I feel truly listening is important.

Finding help for your child can be a tricky road to navigate, and it can be difficult to know what support is most suitable for them. Therapy sessions create a regular and safe space in which young people can express themselves without fear of judgement. Each of our sessions are child-led, and together we explore their emotions and experiences in a safe and healthy way. Through the therapeutic journey your child can work towards feeling happier, more confident, and able to engage in healthy relationships. I work in collaboration with parents and offer regular reviews to think about your child's progress together.

Are you feeling helpless, hopeless, frustrated with life, others or your self? Does life feel like too much at times? Do you find yourself wondering what is the point? Are you anxious? worrying about things that have yet to happen. Dealing with difficult feelings can feel overwhelming and may seem as if you have nowhere to turn or no way out. Deciding to see a counsellor can be a scary thought, thinking about discussing, with a stranger, private and sensitive subjects or even things that may feel shaming. However, making the decision to start therapy can be the first step to empowering yourself to make changes in your life.

Hello I am Paula and my aim is to make professional counselling accessible, affordable and convenient - so anyone who struggles with life's challenges can get help. Depression, anxiety, stress, overwhelmed are words we all hear on a daily basis when generally chatting to family, friends or work colleagues . Counselling can help us cope with those over consuming feelings. Sadly we cannot avoid trauma happening but seeking help during the trauma or even months, years later may reduce risk to further illnesses that have been linked to psychological trauma. Are you in an abusive relationship or having issues as a couple?

I work mainly with school aged children who are struggling to manage their emotions and behaviours at home and in school which may be due to many outside influences, early years traumas, environmental difficulties etc. Clients come to Play Therapy sessions to find a safe, supportive space where they can use their natural language of Play to work through their difficulties, in a non-judgemental, child-led environment, gaining understanding of their difficulties and finding ways to manage these for a more settled and healthier future.

How can I find a therapist in Canterbury?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
