Trauma can leave you feeling constantly on edge, emotionally overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself and others. You may understand logically that you are safe, yet your body still reacts as though you're in danger. Perhaps you experience flashbacks, intrusive memories, shame, relationship difficulties, or difficulties managing your emotions. You want stability, clarity, and a way to move forward without being defined by what has happened to you.

Most of us will experience sexual and relationship difficulties at some point in our lives and yet it can still be very challenging and embarrassing discussing them. Talking to an experienced and qualified psychosexual and relationship therapist can help you identify the difficulties you are experiencing, understand and explore different ways you can overcome these challenges and move forward. I aim to create a confidential and safe place where you feel able to talk about these issues in a non-shaming way. I am a sex positive therapist and I am comfortable exploring alternative sexual interests.

People seek counselling for many different reasons. Often it's because they are struggling to resolve something in their life, their relationships or themselves. They may be feeling stuck, weighed-down, confused, anxious or depressed. Whatever the reason, I see counselling as an opportunity to explore this in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental relationship. Through exploration, self-understanding and awareness, we can increase our capacity to be in healthy relationship with ourselves and other people. This broadens our self-perception, increasing our ability to respond in our lives in healthy, flexible ways.

My ideal client often feels stuck in patterns they cannot shift alone. Sessions often take place indoors with my friendly cat nearby. You might be struggling with dating, recovering from heartbreak, or finding communication difficult in a relationship. Many people I work with are also navigating ADHD or autism and feel misunderstood. You want clarity, confidence and healthier ways of connecting with others.

Many people come to therapy feeling exhausted, stuck in repeating patterns, or carrying a sense of shame, invisibility, or “something wrong with me.” You may have learned to survive by performing, pleasing, or shutting down. Therapy can be a place to reduce performing, slow things down, and begin relating to yourself with kindness and self-compassion. Healing doesn’t come from fixing or pushing pain away. It comes from turning toward those lonely, isolating, fearful parts of us with curiosity and compassion— to witness their story without trying to change it.
When we do this, something beautiful happens: feeling is healing.

Hi there. You know deep within you that things can be different: how you see your self and others or the stories that you tell about your life. Indeed, the ways in which you think or feel about events that have unfolded, your way of being, is to some extent shaped by the psychological adaptations that have occurred in response to living. I am a dual-registered counsellor and sport psychologist with 20 years' experience helping individuals to become differently; to attain margins that matter, and find what matters in the margins.

As a Clinical Psychologist and academic with over 10 years of experience, I work with adults who have experienced trauma as children and/or adults. Trauma often sits at the heart of people's difficulties, yet it can express itself in different ways (including through a variety of psychiatric diagnoses) and therefore careful consideration of impacts on people is needed as well as what approach is then needed to address it. I offer trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy focused on helping you make sense of your experiences, develop greater emotional stability, find more effective ways of coping, and to live a life beyond trauma.

Let’s be honest, it’s all a bit daunting really. You decide you might need to talk to someone, Google it, and suddenly you’re scrolling through pages of smiling faces. The titles and initials next to our names likely don’t mean a great deal to you. And nearly everyone says a variation of the same thing about themselves anyway. So how do you tell us apart? This specialism, that theory, those qualifications, these years… What really matters is whether we connect. The research backs this up, and my experience does too.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unable to switch off? You might find yourself overthinking, feeling constantly on edge, or trying to hold everything together while struggling underneath. Even if things look fine on the surface, it can feel exhausting and isolating to carry this on your own. Therapy is a space to stop carrying everything alone. We’ll look at ways to help life feel less heavy in the present, while also understanding why things feel the way they do. I have a particular depth of understanding in areas such as parenting, men’s mental health, neurodiversity, and gender and sexuality.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
