In partnership with a horse, I take things at your pace, to explore things when you are ready, using ground based Equine Assisted Psychotherapy models, alongside adapted Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing ( EMDR ).
Hello - I am Dr Charis Green, a Clinical Psychologist and Equine Assisted Therapist with 10 years experience working within mental health in the NHS. I know how powerful therapy is, and I also know how animals can help in making therapy feel safer and easier to engage with. I have developed Beyond the Clinic Room to offer Equine and Canine Assisted Psychological Therapies, combining the therapeutic power of animals, in nature, with the high level of knowledge and experience of a Clinical Psychologist. At the heart of my approach is building safe relationships and trauma informed care, for both our clients and animals.

As an EMDR Europe Clinical Supervisor/Consultant, I am experienced in working safely and effectively with people who have suffered serious & often complex traumatic events or situations in their lives.
I know the past couple of years have been really difficult times for everybody and there have been many changes in how we meet and talk to each other. Certainly in EMDR treatment, we have had to make rapid changes in how we think and work in order to remain available to those in need. My own experience in working online with life's complex and diverse difficulties has found that positive and effective work can equally be achieved via video sessions and has enabled me to work with so many who would otherwise find difficulty in travelling perhaps due to time, distance, work or other factors. Please email me if you wish to know more

For 20 years I have trained in and practiced several effective self development and psychotherapeutic approaches, all of which support healing and change. I have worked within the NHS with adults with high levels of mental and emotional difficulties as well as more recently with families, children and adolescents with low to moderate difficulties in anxiety, low mood and behaviour difficulties. My work ranges from a long term psychodynamic approach to short term trauma based EMDR . Both will increase your awareness of how past experience can create unhelpful patterns in our present. Both can transform in a gentle and safe way.

With 20 years experience as a Counsellor & 10 years as an Art Psychotherapist within various NHS, Education and Community-based services, I've since specialised in EMDR therapy and am now an Accredited Practitioner with the EMDR Association UK & Ireland. Although EMDR is widely recognised as a trauma-focused therapy, it can effectively treat a broad range of issues, often in a relatively short-term time-frame. EMDR helps process intense emotions, self-limiting beliefs & behavioural patterns in the present which seem stuck on repeat, as they often track back to distressing or overwhelming relational-issues or life events in the past.

There's a first time for everything. Most newcomers to counselling & psychotherapy start out feeling a little intimidated by the idea of this rather mysterious process. I aim to demystify what I do - clients often comment on what they describe as a down-to-earth and accessible approach. My aim is ultimately to help you understand yourself and your behaviour. I feel that goal is best achieved by working in a non-threatening, straightforward and inclusive way.

I see clients with a range of difficulties across the lifespan who find themselves in psychological distress and are looking for an understanding and solution to their difficulties. These difficulties may have been lifelong or more recently acquired. They may be showing clinical symptoms such as depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress, or OCD as a result. They may want longer term therapy to work on themselves more deeply or they may want short term therapy that is focussed on resolving more specific issues.

EMDR Counsellors
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an information processing therapy that helps clients cope with trauma, addictions, and phobias. During this treatment, the patient focuses on a specific thought, image, emotion, or sensation while simultaneously watching the therapist's finger or baton move in front of his or her eyes. The client is told to recognize what comes up for him/her when thinking of an image; then the client is told to let it go while doing bilateral stimulation.

If you're looking for EMDR therapy in Canterbury or for a Canterbury EMDR therapist these professionals provide EMDR therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing and EMDR treatment. They include EMDR therapists, EMDR psychologists, EMDR psychotherapists, and EMDR counsellors.
