I am a warm, calm and non-judgmental counsellor who welcomes those who need to unburden their troubles and unravel their muddles. I am resilient enough to hear your darkest stories and hopeful enough to know that we can all grow. I have experience of counselling people with trauma, as well as anxiety, depression and day-to-day worries. I have 20 years experience of working for charities, with people who have experienced mental health issues, homelessness, disability and with older people. I love to work with people to realise their goals, rediscover their choices and to find hope, self-acceptance and emotional peace of mind.

Psychoanalytical Psychoanalysis and Integrative Counselling: "The speed and accuracy by which Chris was able to work out our personalities and provide genuinely useful insight was, quite frankly, incredible.  This insight, hard as it was to digest, proved to be so profound to me that I was finally able to unpick what had being going on in my relationship.  His ability to sum up the relationship in one stark metaphor was a watershed moment for me.  Through his insight and continued support I have managed to start to discover myself again and to regain my confidence which had been systematically dismantled."  Mr. M, 2019, Canterbury.

Too many people still think they need to "suffer in silence". There's a strongly-held belief, especially among men, that it's not OK to talk about emotions, about problems in relationships, or about those moments when we feel overwhelmed. I've worked with many clients who come to counselling as a last resort, not really believing it can help them. But thousands of people out there have found that talking does make a difference. If you've been wondering whether it could make a difference for you, contact me for an introductory appointment, to see whether counselling is right for you.

Therapy can be a catalyst for change helping us to regain a sense of control in our lives and begin to live life more towards our true potential. I have experience of working with a wide range of issues that impact on clients' wellbeing, offering support, empathy and a safe space to share their concerns. I work with individuals, couples, families, children, young people on short and long-term contracts in Canterbury and Waltham. I use different approaches and techniques that are tailored to clients' needs, believing that we are all individual and that ‘one size does not fit all’. I have also lived and worked extensively overseas.

By creating a non-judgemental place on a weekly basis, you are able to explore your thoughts and feelings at a deeper level. We learn to sit with uncomfortable and unwanted feelings in order to understand where they really stem from. Any feelings that we repress can turn into projections, anxiety, panic attacks, even depression....etc. it is crucial that we explore why we cope the way we do and what holds us back from processing certain feelings. Keeping up with the new self-diagnosis trend I welcome neurodiversity!

Hi am Felicity, a Level 4 Dip counsellor, and registered member of the BACP. I work with adults experiencing a variety of struggles including anger, sadness, anxiety or hopelessness which are impacting negatively upon their relationships, work and life in general. Perhaps it has become impossible to meet your own needs due to placing the needs of others above your own, and a reluctance to say 'no' is leaving you burnt out. Life in the current climate has seen an increase in people struggling with their mental health and in need of some support, yet not knowing where to turn for understanding and validation can be lonely.

I provide the space for you to make the changes you want. Where you can talk through your thoughts, feelings, experiences and concerns, free from judgement. For some, this is in a therapy room and for others this can be outdoors. You choose the space to suit you. I focus on helping you to heal and re-energise. To become aware of personal strengths and also the barriers that may be holding you back. Together we work on how you can move forward with new knowledge and skills to live a more authentic and meaningful life going forward. To help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be.

I'm an Art Psycotherapist and you may have visited other therapists and feel you still looking and searching for a therapist who can tolerate your silence and your struggle to find the words. Words and language can be baffling and you may wonder, "Why can I talk but can't I find a way to tell my story?" You may want to talk a lot or very little but what is important is you feel understood and you find empathy for yourself. Your trauma maybe recent or in the past or from your childhood and together, we can find out how you can understand what has happened in the past to make your future better.

Are you struggling with yourself or life right now? You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious or depressed, or even struggling with a life/work balance. Recent times have been challenging and negatively impacted many people. Sometimes, speaking to family and friends just doesn't seem enough. However, with the right support, you can definitely thrive, discovering your strengths and forge a more positive way forward. Imagining being the driver of your life, where you are in control, instead of a back seat passenger of your life.

How can I find a therapist in Canterbury?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
