Growing up can feel overwhelming at times—whether you're a child trying to understand big emotions, a teenager navigating identity and friendships, or a young adult facing life transitions and pressures.
For younger children, we use creative and play-based approaches to help them express themselves in ways that feel natural and comfortable. With teenagers and young adults (up to age 25), sessions are more conversational, while still adapting to your unique style and needs.

I work with children and their parents, but also offer therapy to adults.
Over the last 15 years within the NHS I have developed my therapeutic interests and offer an integrative approach, where I draw on models of Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and more recently Eye Movement Desensitisation (EMDR) Therapy whilst thinking about the impact of the system that surrounds the person.

I also specialise in working with children and parents who are struggling with their children's behaviour.
Hi I'm Mo, I'm an experienced psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer. We've all got our unique skills and talents and being a good psychotherapist is mine. People describe me as warm, easy to get along with and funny, with a depth of professional knowledge that I use to the advantage of my client in a down to earth way. It's hard to describe exactly what I do and how I do it because after many years of studying, supervising and training other therapists, it just comes naturally. However, my work is evidence based and the evidence shows that working with me will get you results or help you change or accept what can't be changed.

Drawing on personal and professional experience, I work with children, young people, and adults experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, or overwhelm, as well as those healing from trauma, loss, or difficult childhood experiences.
The heart of my work is grounded in the person-centred approach, but also considers other theories and modalities allowing me to become an integrative therapist. I value each individual’s uniqueness, strengths, and capacity for growth, and believe that true healing happens within a safe, non-judgemental relationship where you feel heard and accepted.

At Dandelions we know what it is like when your whole world is turned upside down by the loss of a loved one. Grief taints every aspect of your life, even parts of it that didn't involve the person that has died, and the intense variety of emotions can feel overwhelming. You may find yourself wondering where to begin in putting your life back together, perhaps you're not sure you want to. At Dandelions we are here to care, listen and be with you through your grief process; to help you work out who you now are in light of the loss and to gain the confidence to deal with life as it now is.

Children and young people often communicate what they are feeling through play, creativity, behaviour, and connection rather than words alone.
Using creative and child-centred play therapy approaches, I work alongside children at their own pace, building trust and emotional safety through play, storytelling, art, and therapeutic connection. My approach focuses on helping children process difficult emotions, develop resilience, strengthen self-esteem, and find healthier ways

FAQ - About Child Therapy
When does a child need to see a therapist?
Children naturally experience emotional ups and downs. Sometimes, though, they need support from a professional. A child may benefit from therapy if their emotions or behaviours change significantly within a short period of time. For example, if a child usually spends time with friends after school but begins isolating in their room, further inquiry is warranted. Other areas for concern include altered sleep patterns, lack of appetite, intense anger, irritability, or hopelessness, or developmental regression in young children (bedwetting, thumb-sucking).

What can a child therapist help with?
A therapist can help with any difficult experience a child may encounter growing up, including learning problems or anxiety related to school, relationship challenges with friends or parents, bullying, intense emotions or phobias, divorce and family dynamics, or the death of a pet or loved one. A therapist can help children process their experience and develop coping skills in an age-appropriate way

What therapy types are most suitable for children?
Children can benefit from different forms of therapy, including family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and exposure therapy, depending on their condition. Play therapy is a great option for younger children who may not be able to fully articulate their feelings. In this approach, kids play with toys and games while a therapist observes and helps the child express their emotions and develop coping skills.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
