Whether it’s transitioning from teenage years to adulthood, navigating relationship difficulties, the emotional shifts of menopause or andropause, facing redundancy or retirement or coping with loss, these moments can often bring feelings such as anxiety or depression.
My approach is humanistic with person-centred values at its core. I integrate other therapeutic techniques tailored to your unique needs, because what works for one person may not work for another. Together, we’ll explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, I’m here to make things easier: no jargon, just honest, down-to-earth support.

Perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, going through a crippling and isolating bereavement, or having difficulties in your relationships.
My way of supporting you is grounded in evidence-based research. However, one size does not fit all and we can collaborate to see what does work for you. I believe that through talking and exploring emotions and patterns of behaviour we can find new ways of being and gain insight into ourselves which can give way to change and acceptance.

For me, Psychology is about making a difference to people's lives, no matter how big the current difficult that they are experiencing; and to support them in reaching their goals. I enjoy working with people with physical health difficulties who may be struggling to adjust to a new diagnosis, or change in symptom. I also enjoy supporting people to recognise what they are already doing well and how this can help them. I work with children and their parents, but also offer therapy to adults.

Maybe it’s stress that won’t let up, anxiety that has made the world feel smaller or a loss that has changed the shape of things.
My approach is integrative, working with your whole self - mind, body and nervous system together. Stress and anxiety don’t only live in our thoughts; they settle in the body too. So alongside talking therapy I draw gently on body-based, somatic practices, helping you release what you’ve been holding rather than only thinking your way through it.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
