Steve Horrocks Hypnotherapy
I regularly see clients who are suffering from anxiety,
sleep
problems, chronic pain, weight issues, stress & worries, IBS, fears & phobias, low mood, emotional issues or PTSD/traumatic memories. People work with me when they haven't been able to free themselves of these issues completely, or at least regain the quality of life they want, through their own efforts or with the assistance of other therapies. Often they feel that they are battling with themselves - and what they want is to find a caring & knowledgeable guide who will help them draw on their own inner resources to experience life differently.

Are you experiencing poor concentration, distraction, anxiety, memory problems, brain fog,
insomnia
or indecision? In order to thrive at work and in life, we rely on having good concentration, focus, decision-making, memory, emotional agility, psychological flexibility and cognitive ability. Together, these functions can be described as 'good brain health'. However, these vital functions can be interrupted by stress, ADHD, ASD, Dyslexia, hormonal changes like pregnancy and menopause, and illness such as Long Covid. I work with people who want to proactively improve, protect or optimise their brain health and wellbeing.

I am a qualified integrative counsellor and CBT psychotherapist working towards accreditation.I work mainly in the humanistic approach, and I also use elements from other approaches such as CBT (cognitive-behavioural therapy) or psychodynamic therapy, which allows me to choose optimal therapeutic strategies for each client individually. The values on which the humanistic approach is based, such as empathy, respect, authenticity and perception of values in every human being, are very close to me. I firmly believe that being truly understood, heard and accepted the way you are can change our lives.

What if you could be kinder to yourself? What if you could experience less anxiety and low mood? What if you could be supported in healing from past traumas? What if you could become more assertive and set healthy boundaries? Perhaps you don’t know what’s wrong but you’re feeling unsettled, sad, anxious, confused, or stressed. You might have put on a happy mask for too long and you’re exhausted. I invite you to imagine how things could be different and, with this hope - no matter how small the hope might be-, I invite you to get in touch with me.

I became a therapist after navigating my own journey with what life had presented me with and the likely hood is I've been somewhere similar to where you are right now and I've come out the other side. Together we can explore what is happening with you and in your life that has left you feeling anxious, depressed, sad, angry, low in self-esteem, empty or distressed. I will not only work with you on how and why you are suffering but also find with you ways to move past your struggles. I am not a therapist that sits back, Im here to sort things out with you.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
