Hi I’m Katie a highly experienced registered therapist specialising in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Counselling. I provide a warm, empathetic space using CBT to help clients break viscous cycles which cause distress such as anxiety and depression by helping them understand the relationship between thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviours. As everyone's stories are unique we work collaboratively together forming a bespoke treatment plan which includes specific interventions targeted at treating your issue(s). During the first session I undertake an assessment of needs in order to tailor the therapy to you.

We all deserve to have a life that we feel secure in and a future that we can look forward to. But in reality there are times when this simply isn't the case. And so we seek therapy. It might be for help with overwhelming feelings of anxiety and depression. Or a little nagging voice at the back of the mind that says that now is the right time to talk to someone. Or something quite clear and sudden has happened. Therapy is somewhere you can come to talk, confidentially, about whatever it is that is affecting you.

At some point in life, most of us long for new ways of being. This can be brought on through a period of depression, anxiety, traumatic past events, relationship problems, or grief and loss. Many of my clients have never seen a therapist before and I recognise that choosing to do so is a big decision. It often comes from a realisation that now is the time to take a pause, to reflect and to invest in oneself. For couples counselling, I know that navigating the complexities of our relationships can be challenging - humans are complex - two of us together is more complex! Having space to talk and be heard is a good place to start.

I offer counselling in a safe, confidential environment for you to discuss any thoughts, feelings or behaviour that you are finding difficult. Together we can talk about what you are experiencing, giving you time to process your thoughts, feelings and emotions to identify the root causes, explore better ways of coping or to make changes. Recognising that we are all individual, with different experiences, I work using an integrative approach drawing on a range of skills and techniques to tailor my counselling sessions to meet your needs.

My main areas of experience are in addiction, Trauma, destructive relationships, anxiety, low
self esteem
and lack of meaning.
I became a therapist after navigating my own journey with what life had presented me with and the likely hood is I've been somewhere similar to where you are right now and I've come out the other side. Together we can explore what is happening with you and in your life that has left you feeling anxious, depressed, sad, angry, low in self-esteem, empty or distressed. I will not only work with you on how and why you are suffering but also find with you ways to move past your struggles. I am not a therapist that sits back, Im here to sort things out with you.

It can be overwhelming when anxiety, low-
self esteem
, shame, self-sabotaging or anger are present in daily life. Even in the most unexpected situations, they can manifest in real physical reactions in the body. Body psychotherapy (also known as somatic psychotherapy) is a specialised approach in psychotherapy that combines talking with body awareness, mindfulness and works gently with the Autonomic Nervous System. This process can help to break patterns by understanding and integrating the roots of what troubles you, leading up to positive effects on your daily experiences and helping you to feel more at home with yourself.

Hello, I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and specialist in Psychotherapy, with extensive clinical experience. I have worked with clients across the lifespan. As well as in my private practice, I have worked in a variety of settings, like hospitals, out-patients clinics and the work place. I studied Psychology in Spain and since 1998, I have worked in mental health services in the UK. The talking therapy I provide is influenced by psychoanalytic theories and practices, which is explorative. I can draw upon other therapeutic models, like cognitive behavioural approaches when more focus and direction is needed.

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.
What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.
What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.
How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
