As a BABCP accredited CBT Therapist I have worked in various NHS and private settings: Anxiety, Depression, Panic, OCD, PTSD, Trauma, Perfectionism, Worry and Low Self Esteem are difficulties I regularly work with.
I incorporate third wave approaches such as Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, Distress tolerance and Narrative Therapy into my work at Cambridge CBT. These approaches are particularly effective in working with painful emotions and processes such as guilt, shame, rumination, anger and an intolerance of uncertainty.

The idea of seeking counselling or psychotherapy can feel like a daunting prospect. However, sometimes we can face struggles in life that seem too difficult to cope with alone. It takes courage in taking the first steps to seek help and support. My personal philosophy is that we are all complex unique individuals with our own needs, but sometimes these needs get distorted as we try to fit in and be accepted by others, or we simply become lost in the "busy-ness" of our lives. I am a highly experienced BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist with over 15 years experience working with a wide range of clients and their issues.

I offer support to adults living with anxiety and low self-esteem.
There is something quietly powerful about being properly seen and heard - without judgement, without interruption, and without needing to be anything other than yourself. In a world that often expects you to just keep coping, I offer a calm space. A space where your thoughts, feelings and experiences are met with warmth, compassion and care. Together, we can start to make sense of what feels overwhelming, help you gain insight and clarity, rediscover your inner strengths and create room for change at a pace that feels right for you.

I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, my experience includes working to resolve the causes of depression, anxiety, shame and low self-esteem.
While we all deserve to have a life that we feel secure in and a future that we can look forward to, in reality there are times when this simply isn't the case. It might be that we look for help with overwhelming feelings of anxiety and depression, or a little nagging voice at the back of the mind that says that now is the right time to talk to someone.  Or perhaps something quite clear and traumatic has happened. Working together, therapy can become a way of finding the words to make sense of confusing experiences.

We cannot avoid the difficulties life puts in front of us, but we can build our own resilience and self-confidence to better face those tough times.
I believe in the restorative power of the environment and this often plays a role in my work; being outside, horticulture, eco or walk-and-talk therapy or bringing some of 'nature's' lessons into our work together in online sessions. Creating a safe space for exploration will help you process issues or take practical steps to build resilience and wellbeing.

Self Esteem Counsellors
When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
