We can be curious together about how one of multiple aspects of lived experience such as your age, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender, religion, marital or civil partnership status may be affecting the way that you perceive the world around you and the way that you may be perceived by others.
When you contact me initially I will walk you through some of the options and if we decide to work together I will meet you (or you and your family/significant people in your life) ‘where you are’ in life. We may decide to focus on getting a better understanding of the ways that your early experiences have influenced the ways you perceive the world and relate to people around you. We may focus purely on the present and your goals for the future. Based on your circumstances we may decide to do some time limited or long term therapy.

Therapies: Psychodynamic, CBT, Trauma Focused, Family / Marital, Person-Centred, Mindfulness-Based.
I understand that to make that first call or email for counselling can be extremely difficult, the fact you’re here means you’ve taken the first step towards making positive changes in your life. Are you stuck, feeling lost or alone, afraid or upset? I aim to help you to make sense of your fears, worries and anxieties. Many people find it easier to talk to someone who they see as being separate to their life rather than friends or family. I can help you make sense of experiences of the past and resolve complicated feelings linked to these. Therapy can be used to better yourself, allowing you to take complete control of your life.

I work with couples, regardless of marital status or sexual orientation, to understand why they are experiencing difficulties in their relationship.
Every individual and every couple is unique and for most individuals a breakdown or rupture in their most significant relationship can feel devastating. Most often couples come to counselling in the hope that they can understand how the deterioration occurred, with a view to building a new and stronger connection. For some, this may be the last resort and for others it may be the gateway to separation. Whatever the reason, whatever the goal, it is important to know this process is never about blame.

It's not always easy to reach out and ask for support. We often feel that we can manage on our own or don't want to bother anyone with our thoughts and feelings. It can be hard to find a balance between work, relationships, family & other commitments to prioritise yourself. No matter what brings you to therapy the most important part is the relationship we will share. I aim to ensure you feel heard & give you a space to work through anything you want to bring to help you have a greater insight & self-awareness and I will walk alongside you on this journey. Counselling isn't a one size fits all package it's as individual as you are.

I provide support (currently virtual only) for a range of difficulties affecting the wellbeing and mental health of children and families, including: dealing with life changes (e.g. parental separation), low mood, anxiety, behavioural difficulties, panic attacks, emotionally-based school avoidance. I also provide support for perinatal issues (pre/post-natal anxiety, low mood, birth trauma) in addition to early years challenges (tantrums, sleep and bonding difficulties). I specialise in providing parent and family support. I strongly believe in the importance of intervening early before challenges have chance to develop further.

I am a qualified integrative counsellor ,CBT psychotherapist working towards accreditation and a EFT couples therapist . I work mainly in the humanistic approach, and I also use elements from other approaches such as CBT (cognitive-behavioural therapy) or psychodynamic therapy, which allows me to choose optimal therapeutic strategies for each client individually. The values on which the humanistic approach is based, such as empathy, respect, authenticity and perception of values in every human being, are very close to me. I firmly believe that being truly understood, heard and accepted the way you are can change our lives.

Hi, I am Jo and welcome to my profile. I am a qualified and Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with the BACP Integrative approach, believing 'one size does NOT fit all'. This approach gives me a variety of skills and ideas based on theory from different schools of thought, therefore allowing me to reach and help more people. I am also an experienced coach, particularly around relationships. Whilst there are definite differences between Counselling/Psychotherapy and Coaching, and there are professional ethics and boundaries I abide, I also believe that the two have similarities in enabling and empowering people to make change.

I have a wealth of experience in working with many different issues, I developed a special interest in family systems and trauma- including addictions and have done additional training In these areas. I work with integrity and respect and my commitment to personal development is key to my practice. I have specialised couple training using the gestalt method . By feeling into one's patterns of behaviour and finding out what drives these unconscious patterns, change becomes possible. Couples can begin to create a new form in their relationship, a new dance can happen and in this container healing can occur.

Marriage Counselling
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
