LGBTQ+ Affirming Counsellors in Cambridge
Hello, my name is Han and I use they/them pronouns. I welcome anyone to my therapy room who wants a safe space to talk things through. I have supported people to explore their identities, navigate coming out, and to get to know who they are. I have worked with people who are already out and those who have yet to find the language to name their experience. You may be someone who already knows who you are but are experiencing some other difficulties in your life. If this is you, it can be helpful to have a therapist who already accepts your identity so that you can you can explore these other topics without having to explain it.

I have over 40 years’ life experience of being a member of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as working with heterosexual people and been a counsellor for 7.
Do you feel frightened that your world might fall apart if you look at your sexuality or gender? Maybe you have thoughts going round and round in your head, and feel like you’ve lost track of perspective. Maybe you: don't like sex/like sex 'too much' /wrong kind of sex? Your gender doesn't fit with other people's idea of you. You may feel you are betraying your family, children or culture by expressing yourself. You may believe that what’s inside you is too shocking, or wrong or too much for the people around you. You may feel like there’s no-one you can talk to, which can be very isolating .

I am a qualified trauma therapist as well as an LGBTQ+ therapist.
An ideal client would be someone with an understanding of how counselling can be used effectively, that said - many discussions with my clients have given me new insights about this and often through these discussions, the client and I can arrive on the same page. Whilst I have a background in trauma training, I do not expect all clients to come with trauma as their reasons for seeking counselling. I am here for you, whatever it is you wish to discuss. My work with clients is open ended, as such - needs and goals can change over time, reviewing our work periodically will help address any change in your desired outcome(s).

I welcome LGBTQIA+, kinky and non-monogamous people and anyone exploring their sexual, relational or gender identity.
I’m Claudia (she/her) and I’m here to explore with you all things sex and relationships.
As a person-centered psychotherapist and sexologist in training I work with individuals and couples navigating the messy, beautiful and complex parts of being human, especially sex, sexuality, identity and relationships. I can support you if you feel disconnected from your body, your feelings, or your loved ones. Perhaps you’re struggling with relationship dynamics and expressing needs. I offer a space to explore what’s going on, how it’s impacting you and how we can move towards your desired outcomes from therapy.

My practice is culturally aware, creative, and LGBTQIA+ friendly.
Hi, I’m Laura, a BACP-registered therapist offering depth-focused, IFS-informed therapy for adults. I work with people navigating periods of change, growth, or inner questioning. My approach is relational, trauma-informed, and grounded in curiosity, supporting lasting shifts in how you experience yourself and your inner world. Together, we’ll connect with the different parts of you (the parts that protect, carry pain, feel joy, or hold strong emotions) as we reflect on any patterns from the past, your relationships, and your sense of self in the present day.

People often feel at home in my work if they value depth, reflection, and an accepting therapeutic relationship - including queer clients, musicians, and others exploring who they are or who they’re becoming.
Person-centred psychotherapy for identity, sense-making, and connection.
I work with people who want a space to explore who they are and how they want to live, especially during periods of change, questioning, or transition. Rather than working on one “problem” in isolation, I work with the whole person, creating a space where you are welcomed and understood. This approach supports change that feels meaningful and lasting, not just symptom-focused. My work is informed by a background in music psychology, though sessions are not music-based.

I work with a wide range of people, I am passionate about working with those who identify as LGBTQ+ and those who may be questioning their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
I trained as an integrative counsellor covering Humanistic, Psychodynamic, and Jungian Therapy. Using these theories I can tailor my approach to fit with what works for you. I also use creativity for those who find it difficult to find or voice their emotions. I mostly work long term/open-ended, so there isn't a limit on the amount of sessions we could have.

Most of my clients are either neurodivergent (ADHD, Autism) and/or LGBTQIA+/GSRD (Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diverse) but I welcome all to my practice.
My expertise is in neurodivergence and gender, sexuality and relationship diversity but I also enjoy working with adults + children, young people and teenagers who are not those things.
I was raised catholic but left the church when I was a teenager to pursue a more authentic experience. I know the feeling of not belonging - happy to support you too.

I believe that our therapeutic relationship is central to your healing process and that by thinking together we can help you to experience greater understanding of Self, less over thinking and a sense of inner peace
We all find ourselves at points in life where we’re searching for support, clarity, or simply someone to talk to. You might be navigating anxiety, a long-term illness, caring for someone else, or exploring your story of being fostered or adopted. Whichever stage of your life’s journey you are at right now, we can work through it together.

I work with adults who feel they cannot go on as they have been and know something needs to change. Many come feeling as though something is wrong with them, that they aren’t quite doing life right. They feel like they are missing the secret manual everyone else seems to have, or the one they were given doesn't seem to work for them. And yet, I’ve seen clients move from that sense of struggle to realising they are very human and were just in need of a space for them to get a clearer view of what's going on, to feel freer, more connected to themselves, and find new terms to live on that reflect what truly matters to them.

The search for a counsellor can feel overwhelming and it can be difficult to know where to start. I believe that successful counselling is largely determined by the rapport between the client and counsellor. If you would like to message me, we can arrange an initial consultation to discuss your reasons for thinking about counselling, what you hope to achieve and to see how well we are suited to working together.

Since the Coronavirus pandemic my Psychotherapy practice has moved online, in most cases. My fee for working face-to-face - in and around the Greater London area - can be discussed. I offer one-to-one, couple and relationship counselling and group therapy. I work with an integrative approach, including theoretical principles such as Relational, Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Spiritual, Mindfulness, Gestalt, etc. I also incorporate Eco-Psychotherapy, as I believe we are each emotionally and spiritually impacted by the differing, ecological environments in which we live.

LGBTQ+ Counsellors
Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?
Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialised training, either during their degree programme or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.
Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalisation in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.
How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?
Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.
Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?
While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialised training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
