My view on therapy is rather simple: 'Through relationships, we heal.' As a BACP accredited couples psychotherapist, I've been privileged to assist individuals and couples with relational issues for over 17 years. I'd like to invite you to the process of discovering and learning how to move beyond the conflict and disconnection to cultivate an intimate, passionate relationship . You don't need to lose yourself or your partner . I firmly believe that with hope, intention, and commitment, you can heal your relationship and yourself.

Therapy is about being seen, heard and respected. Having space to 'just be' and for unpacking and exploring difficulty. Change in therapy occurs through relationship and this can be found in the space therapy provides to find a new way through with curiosity and care. I practice integrative counselling, which means I have a vast base of therapeutic resources to help people when they are in distress. I put this into practice with empathy in the here and now, listening and learning to what really matters to you.

Whether you are troubled by relationship issues, grief, anxiety, depression or trauma, body psychotherapy can help you to come into contact with the parts of you, and experiences you’ve had, which have been ignored or closed down in order to protect you in the past.
Working with your felt-sense experience of the present moment, and with my support, body psychotherapy will enable you to explore your story and the challenges you face in your life. When we listen deeply to the body and allow what needs to be expressed to be heard and witnessed, the magic of healing unfolds. I work with intuition, somatic resonance, talking, therapeutic touch and energetic healing to support you through your emergent healing process.

Therapy is an opportunity to get 'unstuck', to reflect on our relationship to ourselves, to the world, and to others, in an atmosphere that is safe, warm and encouraging. Often my clients are high functioning, intelligent and articulate, but struggle in their emotional lives - they may feel overwhelmed or disconnected, and may struggle to break harmful patterns or make important decisions. Together we explore what is going on at a cognitive, physical, emotional and relational level, identify sources of strength and creativity, and allow space for different aspects of the self to be more fully known.

The relationship with your therapist is key to helping you make the changes you wish for in yourself.
Do you hear yourself telling everyone that you’re ‘fine’, but really you aren’t fine? Feelings of anxiety, panic and depression can get in the way of you living your best life. Are you having relationship , body image, college/university or work issues? Do you feel you aren’t good enough? Maybe you’ve painful memories and have trouble sleeping. Perhaps you aren’t sure what it is making you feel like this. You may be feeling isolated, misunderstood and finding it difficult to share your problems with those around you. I believe that if you can begin to open up to me about what is going on for you, you’ll start to heal and feel better.

This service offers psychological assessment and therapy for children, young people and adults. We currently have availability to see adult clients only. People seek help for a range of reasons including anxiety, low mood, relationship issues, low self esteem or distress following traumatic events. A comprehensive assessment is always undertaken as a first step. This ensures clients have a good understanding of the process of therapy and can discuss in advance what approaches might be most useful for them. I draw on a range of evidence based approaches including EMDR, CBT and systemic practice.

At times, we can all experience difficult thoughts and feelings or a sense of being “stuck”: counselling can help us work through these, develop a better relationship with ourselves and those around us, and gain clarity and insight into the issues that are causing us problems. I believe that we all possess the resources to work through our problems, but at times these can become hidden and feel out of reach. My aim is to help you identify what you need and re-connect with your own resources.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
