Welcome, my name is Marion, I offer counselling in English and Dutch. I can support spoken language with British Sign Language (BSL). Has your life become unexpectedly challenging? Are you feeling burdened, confused or low? Sometimes relationships can change, or work can overwhelm us. The
loss
of a loved one, or the mental burden of the care for others can be times when we need the extra support that counselling can give. We may have to cope with serious health issues, either our own or someone close to us.

The reasons we seek counselling are many and varied. Sometimes there is a sudden
loss
or trauma, but sometimes there are layers of difficult experiences where one more is too many, and we can become overwhelmed. These may be current events or traumatic experiences from long ago that continue to affect life today. We may begin to distance ourselves from friends and family as we try to make sense of difficult feelings and emotions alone. Perhaps because we don't want to burden others or from unresolved or misplaced feelings of guilt or shame. Reaching out for support can be the hardest first step to healing and positive change.

Problems are personal,
bereavement
, depression, stress, relationship breakdowns and anxiety can all feel unbearable and isolating. The reasons for seeking counselling or psychotherapy are as unique and varied as we are. Sometimes we have an idea of what is annoying or upsetting us. Sometimes we struggle to understand issues that darken our days. We might enter a cycle of blame or self-loathing in which we get lost, finding it difficult to move forwards in our lives.

I work with people who are experiencing low self-esteem, anxiety, difficulties with assertiveness, low mood, trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD, relationship difficulties,
loss
of meaning, and difficult life transitions.
What if you could be kinder to yourself? What if you could experience less anxiety and low mood? What if you could be supported in healing from past traumas? What if you could become more assertive and set healthy boundaries? Perhaps you don’t know what’s wrong but you’re feeling unsettled, sad, anxious, confused, or stressed. You might have put on a happy mask for too long and you’re exhausted. I invite you to imagine how things could be different and, with this hope - no matter how small the hope might be-, I invite you to get in touch with me.

Sometimes it is difficult for us to understand ourselves, and the circumstances surrounding us are not allowing us to explore. Sharing thoughts and feelings has been one of the most refreshing, relaxing techniques. A lot can be achieved if this is done in the company of a trustworthy, experienced, trained professional, who is willing to be a part of your world. You will be bringing and sharing yourself with me. I will listen, understand and walk along with you on your journey of finding your way through the paths you find difficult to walk on. I will help you build a comfortable environment for yourself without being judgemental.

I’ve worked with neurotypical and neurodivergent people experiencing anxiety,
bereavement
, depression, trauma, ADHD, OCD, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, spiritual crises, illness, transgenerational trauma, racism, and those who want to connect more deeply with themselves.
It can be overwhelming when anxiety, low-self esteem, shame, self-sabotaging or anger are present in daily life. Even in the most unexpected situations, they can manifest in real physical reactions in the body. Body psychotherapy (also known as somatic psychotherapy) is a specialised approach in psychotherapy that combines talking with body awareness, mindfulness and works gently with the Autonomic Nervous System. This process can help to break patterns by understanding and integrating the roots of what troubles you, leading up to positive effects on your daily experiences and helping you to feel more at home with yourself.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
