I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, relational issues, mood swings, life changes, and day-to-day stressors.
Therapy is an investment in your current and future wellbeing. I join my clients in identifying the source of their concerns, and developing positive change. Whether you're struggling with chronic mental health stemming from trauma, or wanting to figure out why life has felt so hard lately, I am ready to listen with care and non-judgement. I have navigated a wide variety of needs with people who've never experienced therapy before, people who've seem to have tried everything, and people somewhere in between. Wherever you are, and wherever you'd like to go, we'll find the way forward.

I have a lot of experience working with depression, anxiety, abuse, addiction and low self esteem.
I love to explore my clients lives and perceptions of life to try and understand why they think, feel and behave in the ways they do. I have helped many people cope with stress, overcome anxiety, beat depression and reduce their drinking before it took over their lives completely.
Right now you might find it almost impossible to believe life will work out for the best. Sometimes change just comes along but most of the time it's up to us to get started. That's tough at the best of times. Maybe staying as you are just seems easier or, perhaps, you've now reached a point where you want to change but don't know how to go about it. Starting out can seem daunting, a risk even. That's where therapy comes in.

I offer a space which is safe and non-judgemental where we can explore together what is happening with you and in your life that has left you feeling anxious, depressed, sad, low in self-esteem, empty or distressed and not knowing why.
EMDR is a fast-acting approach that is focussed and so works on a specific issue in a way that is rewarding to both the client and therapist. It shows quicker results than individual talking therapy by focussing in on the core root of the problem and delivering results as quickly as possible.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
