Men's Issues Counselling in Calne
I work purely as an Online Therapist for which I am fully qualified and trained to do. This has many benefits, not only as it doesn't mean travelling but we also have the options of working in different ways, such as video, email, audio or instant messaging. Sometimes it can reduce anxieties as you can be in a space that feels comfortable for you. I have a particular interest in working with MEN in therapy as I am aware how difficult it can be for a man to seek therapy and talk about their emotions and experiences. My aim is to provide that safe space in which all clients can explore their feelings and emotions.

We all have a unique history that shapes us and our lives. Life is all about change and transition. Transitioning from one age and stage to another, from childhood to old age. These inevitable transitions bring change for example, marriage/relationships, friendships, pregnancy/parenting, career change/loss, bereavement, and illness.
Although change is inevitable it is not always easy, so exploring your thoughts and feelings about whatever the situation is now or in the past, gives you space to process, understand the impact for you, with the opportunity for new insights and perspectives allowing you to move forward more positively.

You don’t need to have it all worked out, or even know what’s going on. If life feels like it should be different but you’re not sure how, this is a great starting point.

You might be questioning your identity, struggling with intimacy, feeling disconnected from your body, or wanting to explore your relationship style, including non-traditional setups.

Many of us carry deep wounds from our childhoods and early lives, often without being completely conscious of it. Still raw, or thickly scarred, these traumas can manifest in our adult lives, through sensitivity to hurt, inflexibility or unhelpful, self defeating behaviours. In time these unhealed wounds can wreak havoc in our lives and relationships. When this day comes we are left with two choices, either carry on as best we can, condemned to repeat the hurts of the past, or learn to give ourselves the care and love we have always deserved. Counselling offers an opportunity to begin a new life of healing and growth.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
