Female Counsellors in Bushey
On the outside, you may look like you’re coping, balancing work, family, and relationships but inside there’s a quiet sense that something isn’t right. Maybe you feel anxious, low in mood, or just stuck. You might find yourself thinking, “I should be happy… so why don’t I feel like myself anymore?” I work with adults who are navigating transitions, relationship struggles, or a sense of disconnection from themselves. Many of my clients describe feeling unheard, overwhelmed, or caught in patterns of people-pleasing that leave little space.

Hello. I am a warm, experienced clinical psychologist. I have been working with people with a range of psychological difficulties for over twenty years. I see adults, teenagers and parents. My therapeutic approach is based on a combination of Internal Family System (IFS), Cognitive Therapy (with a base of CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, If you are experiencing intense distress our work may either take the form of a more intensive, time-limited therapy to help you regain a sense of emotional balance. Equally we may work in a more explorative manner better suited to understanding more deep seated emotional difficulties.

Being human can be messy. Life asks a lot of us. We navigate pressure, change, responsibility, and uncertainty about our bodies, relationships, and futures.
It can be overwhelming, anxiety producing, and at times, isolating.
Therapy is a place to pause and make sense of things together.

Counselling is a confidential, safe space where the client is encouraged to think and talk about their inner most feelings without feeling judged. My role as your counsellor would be to help you manage these feelings and explore them to a much deeper level whilst giving you the autonomy to help you find your own personal solutions. An initial meeting/conversation will give us both an opportunity to see if we feel comfortable working together. Counselling can sometimes be a long and painful process, but with my help and experience I hope to help you process your thoughts and feelings in a safe space that is just for you.

I work with women who feel anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, exhausted, angry, weighed down or simply feeling ‘off’.
I really do get it, and understand how hard life can be.
There may have been major life events, or everyday struggles that have left you putting on a brave face, saying yes to keep the peace, or prioritising others’ needs without fully understanding why.
If this feels familiar, you may be someone who supports everyone else while quietly struggling to hold things together.
You may be at breaking point, and want to feel less reactive, more grounded, clear about your limits, and lighter in your body.

You may feel capable and organised in many areas of life, yet food can feel like the one place things quietly unravel. You might start the day with good intentions, only to find that by evening you're eating in a way that doesn't match what you truly want. Afterwards comes frustration, guilt, or the familiar promise to "start again tomorrow." Struggles with food rarely come down to willpower. For many people — particularly those with ADHD, or those who've always felt wired a little differently — eating becomes entangled with dopamine, emotional regulation, and the exhaustion of masking.

I know that it can be daunting reaching out for help and that many people never do reach out, perhaps because they are the strong ones who are supporting everyone else around them so their needs are at the bottom of the long list of things to do and people to look after. Please know that you are important too. If you're feeling troubled, I'm here to listen without judgement and I can help and support you to work towards feeling better. Remember there is always hope. I can be flexible with appointments and if you don't have time to come and see me in person and don't like the idea of zoom/facetime, we can do telephone sessions.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
