Do you ever experience feelings of hopelessness and self critical, limiting beliefs and thoughts? Do you experience a lack of energy and reduced motivation? Do you feel held back by worries and panic or feel crippled by spiraling thoughts about what might happen in the future? Maybe you have a specific phobia or fear, restrictive and controlling patterns of eating, obsessive behaviours or urges you feel compelled to complete? Maybe you have a diagnosed neurodevelopmental condition such as Autism, ADHD, learning needs etc and struggling with the impact of this? These are just a few examples of things I can help with.

Maybe you are bereaved and feeling hopeless, but can't discuss this with family? Maybe you are feeling anxious and isolated, working from home and you are fearful of discussing job security with your boss? Maybe you don’t even know why you are feeling so sad or overwhelmed but you do know it is beginning to impact your daily life. Counselling is a talk therapy and it is extremely useful for exploring what is going on beneath the surface we present to the world, that version of ourselves that tries so hard to keep all of the plates spinning at all costs. I want to help you with whatever you are feeling, you are not alone with this.

The ultimate aim of counselling is to enable you to make your own choices, reach your own decisions & go forward with a greater sense of clarity & self-management. Hypnotherapy & mindfulness can be introduced as a type of complementary therapy in which hypnosis is used to create a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility during which positive suggestions are made to rid you of emotional blockage. Often clients contact me when other therapy has not helped them in the way they had hoped. This is often due to the complexity of difficulties being layered perhaps in a history of trauma. Distress in the body and mind can be triggered by what appears to be something superficial. This can open up the past or come at a time when our emotional resilience is low so this event has a greater impact than it may have done. We can find ourselves not being able to function in our normal way. Many clients often identify as 'good copers' and those who 'just get on with it'. Perhaps we can't now - this is frightening and can derail us.

Having several years' experience working with both children , young people and adults, I can offer support to a wide age range from 13+. Reaching out for support can be incredibly overwhelming and scary. It’s very important to me to try and make this as simple and accessible as possible. I qualified as a counsellor in 2019 and have worked within mental health for over 5 years, in the charity and voluntary sector. Removing barriers to counselling support is very close to my heart and I pride myself on being a down to earth practitioner.

If you are new to the world of counselling it may seem a little daunting. So many different types of therapy out there but the aim of them all is to, quite simply, help you feel better! If you are feeling depressed, anxious, overwhelmed and you want to make a change but aren't sure how? Counselling can help you to; improve your relationships, enjoy everyday activities again, feel more confident and able to cope with life. For those who find it difficult to talk, particularly children , I use creative and play techniques to help express emotions. I offer online and in-person sessions.

I can provide specialist treatment to children and their families where they may be behavioural issues that are affecting their relationships. I can help to understand the root cause of behaviour and to encourage heathier ways to communicate needs. I can help strengthen parent- child and parenting relationships by sharing my in depth knowledge and insight into behavioural and relational needs. This essentially builds greater awareness and "attunement" of one another, helping to create more harmonious and healthier family relationships.

Child Counsellors

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
