My counselling experience is wide and varied, I work with addiction, stress, extreme low mood - often described as depression , anxiousness and bereavement.
Above all, I understand how important it is for you to be heard and not judged. I offer a safe space to talk in complete confidence, and with respect. Counselling enables us to express our thoughts and feelings in order to make positive changes. Peace of mind may seem so distant to you right now, it need not be. The ability to change is within you, I can help you to make those changes. I am concerned with what has happened to you, and not exclusively what is perceived to be wrong with you.

Do you feel something is missing in your life? Maybe you struggle to find meaning or things might be so difficult that you find yourself feeling anxious, stressed, depressed or even at crisis point ? I am at your service; I believe every individual has their own innate gifts and purpose waiting to be realised, your spirit, or 'unique-Self'. Too often this spirit is dampened or hidden under layers created in the struggle to be accepted and survive in this world. When an individual is unable to realise their uniqueness and full potential, this can then result in depression , anxiety and relational problems and suffering .

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an effective, evidence based treatment for anxiety disorders, depression and trauma. Life experiences can impact negatively on current wellbeing and self-esteem. We can use CBT and/or EMDR to explore these experiences and how they have impacted on your feelings, thoughts and behaviours. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is particularly effective for childhood trauma including child sexual abuse. I have a particular interest in working with trauma and self esteem. I am a collaborative therapist and I will work with you towards the goals you identify as important to you.

Being human is mostly hard and life can be cruel. We see it time and time again. Bad things happen to good people, and we suffer. Each and every one of us at some point in our lives, finds ourselves lost and stuck. We can get depressed , anxious, angry, defensive and frightened. We can often avoid the things that bring us pain and as time goes on that list gets longer and longer and our life can feel smaller and smaller. Reaching out for help can be the hardest first step, but it's also the bravest and will prove to be one of the best decisions you will make for yourself.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
