I qualified as a clinical psychologist in 2007 from University College London. I'm registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and am chartered as a clinical psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS). I am able to provide a number of reduced-fee online therapy sessions for people who would find it difficult to afford the typical costs of seeing a clinical psychologist privately and do not have private medical insurance. I have experience of working with a broad range of emotional difficulties including low mood, stress and the full range of anxiety disorders.
I am an accredited CBT Therapist and EMDR practitioner with many years experience of working in NHS physical and mental healthcare settings. My aim is to provide a CBT or EMDR approach, tailored to your goals of therapy and provide you with strategies to promote recovery and enable you to engage more fully with life and enjoyable activities. I also offer specialised CBT for people who are struggling with psychological distress that may be associated with physical health conditions. Therapy for health conditions is aimed at improving psychological wellbeing and can help people improve management of their physical health condition.
I'm Jack, a BACP registered psychotherapeutic counsellor. I take a humanistic approach which places us alongside eachother. I will be led by you to create a safe and supportive space. We can generally focus on understanding your unique perspective and experiences. I also like to consider how we can accept responsibilities and explore your choices (or lack of choice). We can decide together what we’re working on; but typically we may touch on finding your strength, self-development, and ways you can grow and feel better about yourself and your situation.

I’ve practiced as an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist since 2009 and mental health nurse for the past 20 years for the NHS and private sector. Both professions combined enable me to work with mild to severe mental health conditions. I have a special interest working with individuals from Black and Minority Ethnic communities and mixed heritage. I can also provide clinical supervision for newly qualified CBT therapists. I am currently working towards my BABCP Supervision Accreditation. My approach is curious and collaborative. I will endeavour to tailor the course of treatment to meet the individual’s needs.
Firstly, welcome to my profile. The start of our counselling relationship together begins here. Here you can read about me, as your future counsellor. Are you feeling you would like to make some changes in your life ? I can offer you a place to take some time-out to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviour to unpick your issues. Counselling allows you to discuss your issue/s and any difficult feelings and emotions you may encounter in a safe, confidential environment. Simply, it is reflecting on who you are & want to be, exploring your thoughts, feelings & difficulties in more depth, whilst I support you achieving your goals
If you are reading this, you have already taken a big step by considering that you may be helped by counselling. Do you feel that you have no-one to talk to, that no-one is listening to you? Do you feel overwhelmed and unable to cope, you are not good enough? Would you like to make changes to your life but don’t know where to start and feel scared? Do you feel alone following a loss? Maybe it’s time to wake up and look forward to your day? Or stop procrastinating and get those things done you have been wanting to? Perhaps you want to feel happy being you?
We all have difficulties in life and need support. You may have reached a crisis point or perhaps you are feeling stuck, lost or disconnected. If you are feeling like its time to speak to someone who can offer you an empathic space to be heard, I can support you to reflect on your experiences, create connection and gain greater self-awareness. With the right conditions, everyone is able to find true self-acceptance and greater fulfilment in life. I have experience providing counselling in person and by phone.
I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist who has been studying and working in the field for the past 22 years and I now run a private practice in Mid Sussex. After completing a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Newcastle University in 2006, I have more than 14 years’ experience working within the NHS. I have a specific interest and expertise in working with clients who have been diagnosed with a progressive neurological condition such as Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson's Disease. Working in this way necessarily involves supporting people who are caring for loved one who is experiencing one of these conditions.
Many clients find their way to me following difficulty with symptoms associated with depression, low self-esteem and/or with additional features of anxiety (in its varying clinical forms.) They frequently report reaching a point where day to day life feels a struggle; offers little sense of purpose/direction with limited experiences of satisfaction or joy. By developing a shared understanding of their problem, including the elements that have served to maintain the clients problem until now - we can be better informed as to what changes are needed (cognitively & behaviorally) to improve symptoms and renew their sense of coping.
It is important that you always feel in control of your process and that it is meaningful and beneficial to you. This includes consideration and respect for your culture, religion, sexual and self-identity. An essential element of this will be the relationship you are able to build with your therapist. My therapeutic approach is collaborative and aims to empower you with the self-awareness, knowledge and skills to make the decisions and changes that are important and useful to you. I will offer a non-judgmental and supportive space for you to explore your past, present and plan your future.
If you are someone who is experiencing anxiety which is starting to negatively impact on your life or has done for many years then please do get in touch. It might be struggling to leave the house, having intrusive, unwanted thoughts or images, having to engage in behaviours such as frequent checking, washing or repeating. Often people can feel embarrassed talking about their anxieties or the unwanted behaviours they feel urged to undertake. I hope my years of experience using evidence based approaches with anxiety should help you feel able to discuss and face these anxieties head on, allowing you to lead a healthier, happier life.
Whether it be anxiety or depression, relationship issues or loss in all its forms, my focus is on your well-being. As a qualified counsellor and therapist with experience in education, employment and charitable settings my aim is to help you to explore whatever difficulties or challenges you are experiencing. It may be that patterns of behaviour that kept you safe in the past are now holding you back from living a more fulfilling life and by identifying these patterns and being curious about the protective role they played we can begin to loosen their grip here in the present.
Whenever a client makes the careful decision to take up counselling, my ethos is to reassure them that through my skillset I will endeavour to grow a professional and respectful relationship with them. My passion is to support clients in helping them reach their full potential and maximise their strengths that lead to a stronger self-awareness and emotional wellbeing.
I work within a Jungian framework, where symptoms are seen as communications from the psyche that need to be honoured, in order to be understood and worked through. I endeavour to meet the patient where they are, and through the interpersonal relationship that emerges between us, with its conscious and unconscious aspects, narratives and meaning can emerge safely and creatively, whether through speech, silence, dreams or bodily gesture. Although my main focus is psychodynamic, I have 20 years experience as a practicing psychiatrist, and I am also practice Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.
People seek counselling for a variety of different personal reasons and difficulties. Whatever is going on for you right now, I provide a confidential and calm environment, to help you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your issues. I believe each client knows themselves best, therefore we will work together in a collaborative manner. I will help you to identify therapeutic goals and strategies of how you can achieve them, enabling you to feel more empowered to cope with the challenges that life throws at you, rather than feeling overwhelmed or held back by them.
Life's ebbs and flows can bring up a mixture of emotions, experiences and sensations. Sometimes we know what is going on and our coping strategies work well. And sometimes we feel stuck, anxious or overwhelmed with no clear path in front of us. I offer a warm and respectful space where we can work together to explore where you find yourself in life right now, identify the patterns that you might want to shift, bring some attention and care to the issues that are important to you, and identify the goals you'd like to reach at the pace that feels right for you.
For most of us, there are times when we need support to deal with difficult emotional issues or a personal crisis. Finding someone you can trust is important as it is the quality of the relationship between counsellor and client that is the key to successful therapy. Through experience, I have come to understand that much of the distress in life is rooted in a disconnection from personal meaning, a sense that we are cut off from ourselves in some way. When we lose contact with our deepest needs we lose direction and relationships may also suffer.
