I believe, that it is one thing to listen to someone when they speak, but it is another to truly hear what they are saying. In sessions my aim is to offer true warmth and honesty so that we can work together in a trusting therapeutic relationship. My work with clients covers many different aspects such as trauma, abuse, self-harm, bereavement, long term and life changing health issues, relationship difficulties, job dissatisfaction, life changes, depression or simply unexplained feelings of loss, fear and anxiety. Working together, at your pace, we can explore what is troubling you, and uncover any root causes

I'm Sarah, I am autistic, I have ADHD and I am also LGBT. This makes me a bit different, especially in the therapy world, but I have come to embrace, advocate for and love difference and diversity in all its forms. This means I love working with people who also feel different and I know how it can feel trying to find a therapist that will understand. I now specialise in working with other autistic people, those with ADHD or both.

Anxious, depressed, stressed? Struggling to cope? Struggling to make changes? Lost sight of who you are and who you want to be? You’re not alone. We’re often harder on ourselves than on anyone else. With busy lives, work or family commitments, we forget to check in with ourselves – and don’t want to burden others with our problems. Are you are struggling with the impacts of trauma or abuse? Suffering with negative thought patterns? Finding it hard to make sense of the way you process life's events?

Having undergone therapy myself I appreciate the importance of finding a therapist whom is able to facilitate a safe, warm and confidential environment to support the exploration of your story. I have worked with an array of clients whom have accessed therapy for varying reasons that they feel are inhibiting them from living an authentic life. My role within the therapeutic relationship is to work alongside an individual to facilitate self-exploration and consider alternative routes that may lay before them. I offer individual, group, relationship and family therapy. Please follow the link to my website for further information about these services in more detail. I have extensive knowledge of addiction in all of its forms and have worked with both those in the depths of their addiction as well as those whom are in recovery and have also supported friends and family members too.

Life can be challenging and at times we may not have the capacity to deal with everything going on. I have created the garden room in Launton, the village I live in, where the outdoors comes in to promote healing. Private and overlooking its own garden, it’s a peaceful space within which to work through what is troubling you at this time.

Back in the nineties when I went to my first counselling session when it seemed the only option left that I could face. In the UK back then ‘therapy’ was almost taboo and I was scared to tell a soul. Thank goodness I quickly felt safe enough to confide in my counsellor and to share with her my deepest fears for my sanity, my marriage, my high pressure job and indeed, my future (if there was to be one). I can’t remember too much about those sessions now but I always felt better just for having shared. Nowadays through counselling I help people to find and to love their inner selves, to handle whatever life throws at them and to grow.

Hi, I'm Laura, a CBT & EMDR Therapist & mother of three. I’m on a mission to empower mothers and remind them how important it is to nurture and care for themselves as well as their children. Focussing on mental health and wellbeing, I support mums and mums-to-be on their journey to and through motherhood. Whether it’s your first time or your fifth, bringing a baby into the world is a huge transition. Yes, it’s precious and beautiful, but it can be overwhelming and utterly soul-destroying at times. Wherever you are on your journey, and whatever you’re dealing with, I’m here to guide you through these feelings and out the other side.

How can I find a therapist in Buckingham?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
