I have worked with clients through Relate since 1995, first of all only with couples and adult individuals and then since 2013 with Young People aged 10 to 18 through a contract with CAHMS. The couple work has included working with divorce and separation, affairs, extended family issues, parenting, illness, work pressures, communication issues and sexual problems. Clients might start with a clear agenda or we might spend some time establishing the focus of the therapy as it develops. Amongst other things, the work through CAMHS has covered anxiety, suicidal ideation, family issues, sexuality and transgender issues.

I’m Julia a friendly and supportive counsellor. Following adversity, I’ve been lucky enough through counselling, to have become comfortable in my own skin, hence my desire to support others - who've perhaps also been impacted by life's challenges - to achieve this. Through decades of providing coaching and mentoring support to people during my business career, I have gained valuable insight into how stress and work-related pressure can impact our sense of well-being - in all aspects of our life.

Hi and welcome - I'd like to tell you a bit about me, so you can decide if I sound like the right counsellor for you. I decided to train to be a counsellor several years ago, after experiencing first hand, just how powerful counselling can be in helping to make lasting positive life changes. I have a gentle demeanour that, I am told, exudes calm to those around me, together with a warmth and sincerity that allows me to build meaningful relationships, providing the foundation for you to begin your healing process.

My journey into counselling began as a personal quest for healing . Through that journey, I discovered a profound passion for supporting others to navigate their own paths towards healing and resilience. In my practice, I offer a safe , supportive space where trauma survivors can explore their experiences, express their emotions, and embark on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. With empathy and understanding, I walk alongside my clients as they work through the complexities of trauma, offering support, guidance, and evidence-based techniques to facilitate healing and growth.

I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor with experience working with adults and 11-18 year olds. My approach is non-clinical as I want to provide a space where you can be yourself, feel relaxed, and explore you're issues with me in ways you find the most helpful. My approach is very much 'one size does NOT fit all' so you will lead our sessions in ways you find beneficial and I will offer you a variety of techniques and tools which we can work with together towards your goal(s).

When problems arise, they are often the symptoms of deeply rooted traumas, past experiences or learned behaviour from childhood. Psychodynamic therapy can help you discover and understand the root causes of your feelings and how they are affecting your life in the present. Therapy can help you to explore and gain the necessary insight into how we relate to others and to different situations in our current life stage. This can help us to make necessary changes to how we process and respond to information leading to a more fulfilled/happier life. I work in Guildford and London City. Please see my website for testimonials.

Are past experiences or traumas impacting your life? Do you feel like you should be “over it” by now, but the past still keeps affecting the present? My name is Fi and I can help you unravel the hurt from past trauma. I'm not your typical therapist. I've been known to drop a well-placed swear word or three, because sometimes life's challenges call for a hearty dose of real talk. I specialise in Trauma Counselling but see clients with a wide range of issues. Trauma can be an overwhelming and complex experience, affecting every aspect of our lives. My own personal life experience, has shown me how healing counselling can be.

Maybe you’re navigating a big change, questioning aspects of yourself or your relationships, or simply feeling like life isn’t quite how you’d like it to be. You might be struggling with stress or burnout, stuck in patterns of perfectionism or self-criticism, or finding it hard to set boundaries and put your own needs first. Perhaps you’re exploring your identity, sexuality, or rethinking your faith or spirituality. Maybe you are adjusting to becoming a parent, trying to conceive, or navigating changing relationships with your own ageing parents.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
