I work with individuals and couples who appear to function really well on the surface, yet internally feel lost, burnt-out and lonely. I help highlight the deeper patterns and attachment needs driving persistent behaviour cycles. Perhaps it's caught in the same conflicts in relationships - one pursues while the other withdraws, leaving feelings of rejection and more like roommates than lovers. I make space for what’s happening beneath the surface, so that connection and trust feel possible again. You'll learn how to set safe boundaries, rebuild trust and communication, and be yourself more fully, either alone or in relationships.

People usually seek therapy because they have reached a crisis point in their life and are struggling to cope alone. This can lead to feeling stuck or creating unhelpful behaviour patterns to cope which present them from living life to their full potential. We often feel confused, anxious, depressed, emotionally numb or trapped in our past without clear goals in life or clear identity. I can offer you a safe space to explore better internal understanding which promotes self awareness, personal growth and inner peace which enables you to feel full of hope and clarity to achieve personal success.

Many of the difficulties that bring people to therapy, such as anxiety, low mood, or a sense of repeating the same painful patterns, first take shape in our relationships, and it is often in relationship that they are best understood. I work with thoughtful, curious adults who want to explore why things feel stuck, rather than only manage symptoms. Drawing on psychodynamic and group analytic thinking, I help you make sense of what has become difficult, whether individually or in a group, so that real and lasting change becomes possible.

Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, past trauma, or relationship difficulties? Know that there is hope, and change is within reach. Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed by life's pressures and difficulties and this can cause problems such as anxiety and depression. Past or present issues can cause emotional turmoil and it can be difficult to make sense of life's puzzle. I offer a space where you might be able to put some of the pieces back together and hopefully find a way forward.

You may be considering psychotherapy for a specific concern, or 'symptom', that you would like to address (e.g. anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, etc.). Or you may have a specific question, or life transition, that needs attention. You may find you're repeating the same 'patterns' over and again. It may be that you have a general sense of uneasiness, meaninglessness, or a lack of playfulness in life. Or perhaps you want to get to know yourself more deeply and experience life more fully. Of course, you may also feel unsure about why exactly you'd like to talk to a psychotherapist, but still want to.

As a counsellor, I practice in a pluralistic way which means I draw upon different theoretical approaches when I work with you as an individual – after all, there is only one of you in the world! My aim is to attune to your individual needs and I strive to work in an authentic down to earth way that is interactive and collaborative. Counselling can be daunting so I will work with you at your pace, offering you a space that is non-judgemental, respectful and confidential. Everyone is different, but having a space to talk and actually be heard can be extremely powerful and healing; leading to a greater understanding of yourself.

Sarah is a successful paralegal in the City who struggled with shameful feelings and self-disgust most of her life. Typically as Christmas was approaching and lots of parties invitations started to arrive on her desk, she would surrender into procrastination and self-criticism, in order to avoid a situation she felt likely to fail, supported by an exaggerated set of predictions about social embarrassment or other social disasters. Sarah struggles to improve her confidence and esteem - in spite of a successful academic and professional life. Her efforts are genuine but exhausting and she often is trapped by episodes of depression.

The reasons behind people seeking therapy are vast. For some, there may be a specific question; for others, it may be the desire to understand some part of themselves that they have been struggling to grasp for some time. We all experience times of difficulty and struggle, and sometimes we may find that familiar ways of coping no longer seem to help, or we notice our patterns with others no longer serve us to feel safe and secure. Therapy is designed to create a safe space, with no agenda, so that we can think carefully about ourselves within the context of our lives to explore understanding and change.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Counsellors
How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?
Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioural therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behaviour therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.

Are there specific medications for dissociation?
There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom which may include antipsychotics, antidepressants, or anti-anxiety drugs.

How often and how long are therapy sessions?
Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
