My experience includes working with clients with a range of issues including stress,
anxiety
, depression, relationship difficulties, loss, child abuse, self harm/suicidal thoughts.
People usually seek therapy because they have reached a crisis point in their life and are struggling to cope alone. This can lead to feeling stuck or creating unhelpful behaviour patterns to cope which present them from living life to their full potential. We often feel confused, anxious, depressed, emotionally numb or trapped in our past without clear goals in life or clear identity. I can offer you a safe space to explore better internal understanding which promotes self awareness, personal growth and inner peace which enables you to feel full of hope and clarity to achieve personal success.

My approach to therapy holds to the understanding that peoples experiences make sense within the framework of their own lives: whether those be experiences of
anxiety
, depression,
panic
or simply feeling sad, all are meaningful reflections of what that person has been through, what they're going through now and what they value and care about.
I specialise in working with people who are experiencing a loss of meaning in their lives and may be questioning their own sense of direction and identity; often characterised by such beliefs as 'I don't recognise myself anymore' or 'I don't like the person I've become'. Likewise I have a great deal of experience working with people who have come to question their ability to cope, persevere or succeed; often expressed as deep feelings of hopelessness or helplessness and beliefs such as 'I'm know deep down I'm not good enough’ or 'there's just no way I can get through this'

Feeling overwhelmed and anxious? Waking in the middle of the night, or struggling to get to sleep? Endless racing thoughts? Feeling like you can't breathe? Doubting yourself? Finding it hard to feel motivated? It feels like uncertainty and
anxiety
are unavoidable at the moment. This impacts our mood and mental health. New, troubling feelings and experiences may have been triggered, you may have been struggling for a while, or old problems may have resurfaced. Whatever the case, therapy can provide a space to reflect, talk and make sense of the difficulties you are facing.

I spent many years in the corporate world working in numerous high pressured environments and am acutely aware of the
anxiety
people can experience from the demands of life, both home and corporate life in particular, as well as the challenges of achieving a healthy work / life balance.
I am a multi modal therapist utilising a number of different approaches, including hypnosis, depending on the needs of my client. My aim, as well as addressing specific issues brought to me, is to help my clients become the best individual they can be, to overcome the issues that are holding them back from a completely fulfilling life and find balance during these difficult and challenging times. I work through person centred, talking therapy in a safe, non judgemental and confidential environment.

You may be considering psychotherapy for a specific concern, or 'symptom', that you would like to address (e.g.
anxiety
, depression, relationship difficulties, etc.). Or you may have a specific question, or life transition, that needs attention. You may find you're repeating the same 'patterns' over and again. It may be that you have a general sense of uneasiness, meaninglessness, or a lack of playfulness in life. Or perhaps you want to get to know yourself more deeply and experience life more fully. Of course, you may also feel unsure about why exactly you'd like to talk to a psychotherapist, but still want to.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
