ADHD Counselling in Bromley
I am a counsellor, carer and single parent, and have worked in many industries including self-employment for over sixteen years - all done with ADHD not diagnosed until I was 50.
My name is Sally Spigner and I am a BACP registered counsellor working from a relaxed home office between Bromley and Grove Park. I am passionate about helping clients make changes in life, from teenagers with social anxiety, to executives suffering with burnout. If your life needs to change, and the change has to come now, come along and have a chat. Counselling can help when you have issues which you prefer not to talk about with family and friends, or indeed when they might be part of the problem. There is no need for you to face your problems alone.

Admitting you need emotional support can be hard. Some people may feel like a failure, however, I see it as a strength. It is a huge step towards making things better. Counselling can help with a number of issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, panic attacks, phobias, lack of self-esteem, self-confidence, as well as relationship, work or family conflict. It can also support you if you are struggling with a bereavement, personal crisis or a difficult life transition.

You may be considering psychotherapy for a specific concern, or 'symptom', that you would like to address (e.g. anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, etc.). Or you may have a specific question, or life transition, that needs attention. You may find you're repeating the same 'patterns' over and again. It may be that you have a general sense of uneasiness, meaninglessness, or a lack of playfulness in life. Or perhaps you want to get to know yourself more deeply and experience life more fully. Of course, you may also feel unsure about why exactly you'd like to talk to a psychotherapist, but still want to.

Every client responds to a different balance of therapeutic help. It's your journey, and it's one along which you can discover what if anything is stopping you be the best you can be, or where your talents lie. With or without the aide of hypnosis, your life journey is one of self discovery and a pathway to the realisation that you have all the tools you need, right inside. Its a journey that would sometimes benefit from a pause and a think in a non judgemental, confidential environment and that what I provide to all my clients.

I work with complex trauma, HSP, ADHD, addiction and recovery, identity shifts, and the quiet exhaustion of always holding it together.
I work with adults who want a supportive space to explore what’s going on for them. You may be feeling anxious, low, burnt out or carrying more than you let on. My approach is pluralistic, which means I don’t fit you into a model — we find what works for you. Clients often tell me they value my warmth, steadiness and the sense of being met as a whole person.

I work with autistic clients and men exploring whether they may have ADHD or autistic traits.
You're functioning. That's the word you'd use. You go to work, you hold things together, you get on with it. But you're exhausted from overthinking. You're snapping at people you care about. You're lying awake running worst-case scenarios. And there's a voice in your head telling you this isn't bad enough to need help.
It is.
The men I work with aren't in crisis. They're stuck. Same patterns, same reactions, same arguments. They've tried pushing through it, bottling it up, figuring it out alone. It hasn't worked.
You don't need to be falling apart to deserve support. You just need to be honest that something isn't right.

I'm a trauma informed therapist and I understand what it feels like to struggle with an issue alone. The anxiety, stress and low self-esteem that arise from shouldering a problem by yourself can be isolating and difficult to see a way out of. Silence or avoiding issues can lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms and related problems, such as interrupted sleep patterns and insomnia, disordered eating, self harm, and substance misuse. In turn, these impact relationships with those closest to you. We'll work together to identify unhealthy patterns and create a plan for effective, life-enhancing change.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
