Thank you for visiting my page. I appreciate that seeking Psychological Therapy can be a daunting process, whether that be for yourself or a family member. I recognise that a significant part of the therapy process is establishing a positive relationship with those I support. I work mostly with adolescents, young people and adults and offer a flexible approach, drawing on a range of evidence-based interventions to try and find to the right avenue of support for your needs and goals. Alongside my private practice I lecture at the Anna Freud Centre providing training and development for future therapists.

Please note I am not currently taking new clients. We all face difficult times in life, sometimes those feelings can stay with us, getting in the way of how we want to live and what feels meaningful. Having a safe, supportive space can make it easier to understand what’s happening and find a way forward. My expertise is grounded in evidence-based therapies, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Schema Therapy and Reflective Practise all of which I draw upon to support you.

Choosing a counsellor is a daunting task. Most of us use the same language to describe what we do and how we do it, making it even harder to decide. I have been there, and I learnt that choosing a few counsellors to have an initial meeting with, is a good place to start. This way, you get a flavour of how your work with that person will look like. I invite you to book a free exploratory session with me and decide afterwards if we are a good fit.

Hi. I’m Lisa and I’m hoping you might like me to be your counsellor. Why choose me? Well, if you like a counsellor who considers the relationship between us the most important thing about therapy, if you like someone who is able to laugh with you, call you out and hold your emotions no matter how big they are, then I might be a good fit for you. People who I have worked with describe me as kind, compassionate, honest and challenging.

Client's will be able to understand the historical and systemic influences to their problems and to find ways to create change both for themselves and others that they associate with. Many of my client's have unresolved trauma that influences their day to day interactions, relationships, psychological state and/or physical health. They would hope to be able to make sense of both their mood and beliefs but to also be able to find ways to reprocess or clear any related trauma, make sense of associated anxiety, stress, behaviours and negative beliefs, to find ways to manage, think and behave differently and find new strengths.

I work with children 11 + and adults living with trauma, PTSD, chronic pain, loss, ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, recent diagnoses, relationship difficulties, anxiety and the impact of abuse. Many people come to me feeling overwhelmed, stuck or carrying things alone. You’ve already shown courage by reaching out. I offer a calm, confidential space where you can speak freely and feel genuinely heard. I’m not a one‑size‑fits‑all therapist, but if others have let you down, I’ll walk beside you. I’ve been there too, and I’ll help you move toward the strongest version of yourself.

I believe that, due to the unrelenting pressures of the world we live in and the way our brains have evolved, everyone can find life difficult sometimes. It is easy for our minds to appear to work against us; getting stuck in loops of painful thoughts and feelings. This can result in depression, anxiety and difficulties with relationships. People who have experienced significant distress, trauma or hurt in life can also, not surprisingly, experience significant difficulties where memories come to haunt us and send us back to previous pain. I hope to help people life the life they want to live, with some sense of agency over pain.

Seeking counselling is brave and necessary step when life is overwhelming. Perhaps you feel continually anxious for no good reason, or experience crushingly low moods too much of the time. The loss of a loved one, or a job can provoke a crisis. Or you may be going through unforeseen change in your life which has taken you into uncharted territory. Most people face relationship difficulties sometimes. Discrimination, abuse or bullying may leave you feeling isolated and helpless. If you want to find strength to face such difficulties, solve problems and renew your sense of purpose and joy, I can help.

As someone who experienced a profound alignment to my artistic path and community in recent years after what felt like a lifetime of painful trial and error, I am particularly invested in helping individuals who wish to self-actualise any frustrated creative potential or uncover a calling. The transpersonal aspect of psychotherapy deals with a spiritual dimension of the human experience (not necessarily one that is religious) and in this capacity I hope to assist with people undergoing spiritual emergency.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counselling for elderly different from counselling for other age groups?
In general, counselling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialise in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counselling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counsellors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counsellors specialising in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counsellors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
