For nearly 20 years I have worked extensively with individuals, families, couples and young people. My approach is integrative which means I draw on a number of therapeutic models to help tackle the complex needs that clients can present with. I am able to work with families, individuals and couples who are feeling ‘stuck’ and cannot see a way forward. I can be flexible in terms of appointments. I have an interest in attachments which can have a huge effect on how individuals manage their everyday lives.

You've done years of therapy. You understand your patterns, can explain exactly why you react the way you do. You know why your chest tightens when someone's mood shifts, why you say yes when you mean no, why you choose people who confirm your fears. But understanding hasn't created lasting change. You're still doing it. That's bc insight lives in your mind, but trauma is held in your nervous system, your tissues, your cells. The anxiety in your stomach isn't a thought you can reframe. The shutdown when someone gets close isn't a boundary you chose. Those are your body's responses to old survival patterns that never got completed.

I am passionate about assisting couples and individuals to deepen emotional and physical intimacy, improve communication, and effectively navigate relationship difficulties. I am a Sex Therapist and experienced Relationship Counsellor enabling clients to address both issues together where necessary. My work helps rebuild trust which may have been damaged by years of feeling unheard, or perhaps due to betrayal as a result of an affair. Common feelings of anger, sadness, shame or guilt can often hinder progress, making it difficult to determine next steps without help. Unresolved emotions can explain why recurring conflicts occur.

Hello, my name is Liz. I am a contractual trainee in Advanced TA training at the Berne Institute, and I use the concepts of Transactional Analysis (or TA) within my practice. TA provides a framework through which we can develop an understanding of ourselves and how we have become the person we are today. It helps us to understand our relationship with ourselves (our internal world), and also our relationships with others, and our sense of our place in the world. We all have a script – a life plan made in early childhood that served us well at a time when we had very little power or control.

At times, life can be challenging, leaving you feeling lost, overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from yourself. You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, grief, relationship difficulties, family pressures, or uncertainty about where you are in life. Therapy can be a space where we begin to make sense of your experiences, emotions, relationships, and explore different parts of yourself that may feel difficult, conflicted or disconnected. I hold an MA in Psychotherapy and with over 20 years of experience working with clients, my practice has been shaped by working with people from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

Hi, I’m Aaron, someone who can provide you the space and time to be unapologetically yourself - while you figure things out. Unlike AI, I may not agree with you on everything, but as a human, I will smile, laugh and joke, but I will also challenge, encourage and celebrate you. I am experienced psychotherapist who can create a safe and non-judgemental space to enable you to explore different aspects of your life – nothing is ever trivial. We can work together to understand how your internal mindset, your thoughts and emotions, dictates your current reality – your behaviours and actions.

Whatever brings you through the door, seeking to change or feel better, you no longer need to face your problems alone. What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
