I specialise in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) along side other integrative therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindfulness and hypnotherapy. The framework my approach is built on is REBT, yet as each of us are different, I integrate the other therapies to suit each individual. Some clients benefit more from rationalising thoughts and beliefs, while some need help getting over the past, and some need help with moving forward. I work with my clients to address issues, create and reach goals, and to help them make the most of life.

What happened in your childhood? How does it affect you now? I work with adults to overcome childhood/teenage adversities to find their confidence and build self-esteem. You might be feeling anxious, depressed or overwhelmed. It could be feeling unworthy of another person's love, feelings of shame or of being punished for some trust or over trusting other people. Each day can become an internal battle as you feel doubt yourself, maybe loath yourself, just can't get organised and decision leave you exhausted. I believe the most important thing in counselling is to develop a relationship of trust and confidence between therapist and client. I provide clients with a safe, confidential and warm space for them to reflect on the challenges they bring. Coming to counselling can be a daunting step; as a result it is that much more important to come into an accepting, empathic, non-judgemental environment. I take the view that there is no single approach that can be helpful to you in all situations. This gives more choice of how you want to look at your issues and creates flexibility to tailor therapy to your individual needs and aspirations.

I offer a safe & confidential place for you to come and talk about anything in your life that may be causing you distress or confusion. I believe that counselling can benefit anyone; it can really help to talk to someone who is objective & professional. Often people come to counselling with no clear idea of what they want or how they feel. There is no expectation from me with regards to the issues you bring; counselling is your space & it is common for people to feel confused or unsure. My aim is to support you through the process & help you to better understand yourself & your struggles, so that you can move forward with your life.

Looking for a therapist can be an overwhelming experience; however, it is already a good step in your journey. You may be needing to be listened to or seeking support for a particular challenge. Emotional pain and mental distress need a space to be explored and processed and therapy can offer a safe environment for this.Counseling and psychotherapy can provide an opportunity to be in a safe space where you can be listened to by someone who is unbiased and non-judgmental. By sharing your story and your experiences, and building trust and openness in the relationship with your therapist, we can attempt to gain deeper understanding.

I am an integrative therapist specialising in using eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to treat a wide range of psychological issues. I am highly trained in psychotherapy, neuroscience and trauma and believe that our current issues can often be traced back to early adverse experiences in childhood. Compared to standard talking therapy EMDR generally takes a shorter amount of time to get to the root cause of the issue. Rather than just dealing with symptom management (like CBT), EMDR therapy works directly with the cause of your distress.

How can I find a therapist in Bristol?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counsellors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
