I specialise with the LGBT+ community, including their family and friends. I can offer a non-judgemental, gentle, accepting confidential space for you to share your issues and concerns, knowing you will not be rejected or discriminated against. I have lived experience of transgender identities, as my son is transgender. I have witnessed the high mental health conditions,
suicidal ideation
, including self-harm, and loss faced by LGBT+ individuals that I have counselled, along with the hurdles my son has encountered during his transition. I would like to walk with you along your pathway, and consider myself privileged to do so.

I can also help with other issues like: depression, self-harm and
suicidal
thoughts, stress and anxiety, relationship issues, eating disorders, and bereavements.
I provide trauma-informed counselling to individuals over the age of 16, in a confidential manner. You can explore whatever overwhelming or distressing feeling, thought or behaviour that you are experiencing. I use a non-medicalised growth-driven model which forms the fundamental basis of Person-Centred Approach to explore with you any trauma, attachment issues you have experienced, including developmental childhood trauma. I engage to meet your experiences with full acceptance, care, and empathic understanding to help you understand your experiences and find your own innate resources to adapt and feel good about yourself.

I've worked particularly with anxiety, depression, relationships, bereavement, trauma,
suicide
, and disordered eating.
Experiences in life can sometimes prevent us from living our life as fully as we would like to or in the way we wish. Anxiety, depression and other issues can leave us feeling confused and stuck, unable to move forward and take charge of our lives. I offer one-one counselling in a private, confidential and safe space. This can help you explore and understand your experiences, your feelings and your thoughts. It can help you consider and deal with the dilemmas and decisions you face and it can help you understand your patterns, to see new perspectives for your future and to regain the confidence to make the changes you want to.

Hi, I'm Mary (she/her), I'm passionate about supporting people with anxiety,
suicidal
thoughts, and relationship issues. Is your mind constantly racing, worrying whether you said or did the right thing? Wondering if people like you? Did you make the right decision? Do you find yourself beating yourself up when you feel like you've got something wrong and find it hard to let go of things. Maybe you find it hard to stand up for yourself. Life can be so overwhelming sometimes we can feel like we don't want to be here. It's exhausting isn't it! I'm guessing you're here because you're fed up and want something to change. I can help you.

Hi and Welcome. I am an empathic, energetic and highly motivated individual who loves motivating others and helping them to work towards realising their true potential. Therapy is an option you might like to consider if you are experiencing difficulties in your life. It can help you think and feel through difficult personal questions, take stock of your life and address the issues that are making life difficult. Gaining a clearer appreciation and understanding of a problem is the first step on the road to making changes. Adapting the way I work to your specific needs, we will explore and discover, what might best assist you.

Choosing a counsellor with whom to connect and build a trusting therapeutic relationship can feel daunting, even risky, yet also empowering and hopeful. What does it feel like to take off masks, shedding protective layers that keep the authentic, vulnerable self safe while navigating through challenging or traumatic times? Together we can explore what you feel ready and safe to share - whether these are current, buried or almost forgotten experiences. I will be at your side to listen; endeavouring to relate to your unique circumstances and way of being; facilitative of your change and growth process.

Sometimes life can begin to feel challenging and painful, impacting your inner and outer world. This could be instigated by past traumas, current distressing circumstances or a long-standing mental health condition. Maybe you cannot identify what feels out of place but know that you would like support to explore these emotions and work towards a place of healing. The prospect of entering into therapy can feel like an overwhelming decision, especially in choosing what will best suit your needs. I believe the therapeutic relationship is of the utmost importance, enabling trust and respect, ultimately resulting in lasting change.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
