Life can be difficult, however, there are times when difficulties and feelings become overwhelming and everything seems like a struggle. Having a capable ally alongside you who is impartial, warm and honest can be what’s needed to recognise and shift out of unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour. Living in this world can't always be safe but I believe we are meant to feel safe in our bodies and our sense of who we are. Rather than 'fixing' problems, focusing on being 'better' or even happier, we can develop our sense of security, wholeness and worth, increasing our ability to navigate life's challenges.

Perhaps you're feeling trapped or blocked by the past, confused knowing there must be more to life but feeling stuck in survival. Maybe you feel in the depths of despair with feelings of stress, depression and anxiety or recently grieving from a bereavement, a loss of some kind or simply can’t make sense of a general flatness and loss of meaning. You know changes need to be made and seeking a safe supportive space to work through your process to find greater balance and meaning to life, allowing you to really live your life fully.

There are many reasons why people seek time and space to talk and reflect. You might want to talk about thoughts and feelings that are difficult to discuss with others, or consider what has happened to bring you to this point in your life. This can be a space for exploration and discovery, a protected hour in which you will be listened to. My focus is on listening openly, without judgment, to whatever you bring. I will listen to your experiences and your point of view and together we can look at different perspectives which can help you to live more freely.

I offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy from two venues in central Bristol.
There are many reason why people come to therapy. Some of these reasons can be thought of in similar terms or categories, but the details are always particular and personal. These may be, for example, issues around relationships, or problems with anxiety, depression or trauma. Or perhaps a desire to explore expectations or patterns of behaviour - understanding better who, or how, we are.

This world is a fast-moving, pressured and sometimes, bewildering place. We are expected to navigate it while carrying the heavy weight of the opinions and expectations of others. No wonder that we can become overwhelmed, worried and sad. I can’t (sadly) change the world or your experiences in it, but together, we might be able to find a way for you to move forward, feeling more in control, more confident and hopefully, happier.

I’m George, a University of Oxford trained Therapist. I am well versed in a variety of therapy and mindfulness/ meditation traditions, and integrate a blend of therapeutic approaches and techniques within my practice. That being said, I have specialist training in the three waves of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). The first wave of CBT focuses on improving our wellbeing by changing our behaviour. The second wave adds techniques to support us in changing our thoughts. The third wave includes additional techniques to support how we relate to our experience.

I have worked for many years helping my clients to accept themselves for who they are and how they survive in the hidden world that goes on inside their heads, the world where fear holds them back and keeps them stuck. The world we are all familiar with, the place we go when we put our heads on our pillows at night and we know! I believe that through honest exploration, reflection and acceptance of our past, we can start to accept ourselves and begin to build our self-esteem, self respect, our confidence and compassion for ourselves. We can embrace the parts of us that work and let go of the parts that don't, we can change.
