Throughout our sessions, we will work together to create a bespoke therapy. As an integrative therapist I use a variety of therapeutic approaches. The main focus of the therapy I offer is deeply rooted in Person Centred Therapy; your life is your lived experience and “you experience yourself, as the expert of your own experience”. This non directive approach is the focus of the work, in addition to this, I believe self-compassion ( the process of applying kindness to yourself), is something that appears to be much harder than we are led to believe but remains a key factor in developing a healthy relationship with our self.

Relationship therapy takes many forms and each couple or group who enter into it will have their own reasons for seeking support.
Individual counselling provides a place to go deeper in understanding yourself, your relationships and the challenges you face in life. Here you can be curious and explore your behaviours, choices and relationships more deeply. Bringing lesser known parts of self into awareness can enable us to feel more in control of our choices and actions and reduce anxiety, confusion, powerlessness and overwhelm. Counselling offers a trusting relationship that supports you to explore your inner world, express parts of yourself which may ordinarily be more hidden, and find clarity about whatever may be causing you confusion or pain.

I offer a warm, grounded, relational approach to individual and couples therapy, integrating psychodynamic work, attachment theory, and emotionally focused therapy.
Even when you’re thoughtful and self-aware, certain patterns can continue to shape your relationships in ways that don’t feel good. You may find yourself cycling through the same reactions, fears, or dynamics, leading to conflict, distance, or not feeling fully met. You might be carrying pain from childhood, navigating stress or anxiety, or facing challenges around intimacy or sexuality. You’re seeking more than insight—you want real change. Ultimately, you want relationships where you feel emotionally secure, connected, and confident.

If you have experienced trauma as a result of your past and you find that is affecting you and your relationships in the present, I can help you gently explore these difficulties and support you to make the changes you need to make. Through childhood experiences and life events we try to fit into the world we live in. From very early on we tend to adapt ourselves to meet the needs of others, to be loved, liked and accepted. We twist and manage ourselves into expected ways of being and mask what is really going on for us. In doing this we lose the sense of who we are before we ever know.

Marriage Counselling

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
