I’m an experienced therapist with dual Masters level qualifications in both Dance Movement Psychotherapy, and
Family
& Systemic Psychotherapy.
Perhaps you are struggling to communicate your needs within a particular relationship in your life; or feel “stuck” in repetitive communication patterns with others. Perhaps you have been struggling with your own mental health, and are noticing how this is impacted by, and impacts upon your position in certain close relationships. As an individual, couple, or
family
, I can explore with you different ways of understanding and communicating about those things which may be troubling you. I believe that therapy can help us to tap into our own resources and solutions to problems which maybe feel more difficult to discover alone.

I work with both individuals and couples. The skill-sets and experience I offer draw off a variety of professional trainings such as Internal
Family
System (IFS) and Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO) . These approaches are known to bring about the transformative healing qualities and resources that exist inside people. These are therapies that makes difficult experiences possible, such as: trauma, phobia or anxiety. I am here to help people better relate with what humans experience, I’ve witnessed and learned this is evidently possible through therapy.

Sometimes difficulties can have a major impact on our well-being, relationships or work. Maybe friends and
family
can offer some support but we may also choose to see a qualified and experienced practitioner, who can provide a safe space in which to work with whatever is going on for us. I have a wide range of experience, which includes working in an NHS psychology department, at university as Associate Lecturer, in a GP practice as a Lead Therapist and Supervisor, delivering Integrative Therapy, using Psychodynamic and Person-Centred approaches, CBT and CFT (Compassion-Focussed Therapy) to NHS services and in private practice.

Welcome to Repertoire Counselling. At a certain point life feels overwhelming, we struggle to carry and understand the weight of our feelings, leading us to feel lost, stuck, alone, anxious, angry and fighting through life all by ourselves. My journey to becoming a therapist emerged out of painful experiences, which I am grateful because I love helping my clients to navigate their way through all that life has to throw at them. Talking to someone outside of your situation, who is not a
family
member or a friend can help in gaining relief, self-understanding, self-acceptance and help to build resilience and envision a way forward.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
