Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counselling in Bristol

I have had further training in CBT, Gestalt and Compassion-focussed Therapy.
I am experienced in helping clients to deal with anxiety, relationships, trauma, motivational difficulties and questions of purpose and meaning. Clients may also be struggling with feelings about self and about others. Often these feelings can be traced back into childhood experiences which have not been properly processed. Much of my work is helping clients to relieve a sense of being trapped by unhelpful patterns of emotional response and behaviours. Together, we can process past experiences in order to better see the way forward.

The main approaches I integrate in my practice are: The Person centred Approach, The Pychodynamic Approach and aspects of CBT ( Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).
*I currently don't have any evening availability* My name is Charlotte, I can offer you a warm and supportive space to tackle those issues that you feel unable to explore anywhere else. If you find that unhelpful patterns are negatively affecting your life, I can help you by recognising them, and replace negative coping strategies with positive ones. We can nurture your innate resourcefulness and resilience - work towards becoming the person you want to be and finding your own solutions. We can also use the sessions to pause and take time out of your week to just Be, explore who you are and foster a stronger sense of Self.

Yet some clients I know prefer or benefit from a more structured approach like CBT or the opportunity to explore how their past might be impacting their present.
Hi I’m Carly. I’m an integrative therapist which means I don’t believe there’s a one size fits all approach to therapy so I will work to tailor therapy to you. I specialise though in working with children & young people, survivors of trauma and the LGBTQIA+ community. I have years of experience working for charities such as Women's Aid, The NSPCC and Off The Record, Bristol. I’m also an artist, and a believer in the healing power of creativity. I am happy to work with you in this way if you want to, though equally there’s no pressure to.

We use an integrative model of CBT, focusing on your specific needs, grounded in the therapeutic relationship, collaborative problem-solving & action, life-skills training, and untangling vicious cycles through experiential cognitive, behavioural and emotional re-learning.
It’s normal, at some point, to get stuck, or to struggle facing life's challenges. Sometimes we know exactly what’s wrong but at other times we might just have a nagging sense that something isn’t quite right. Therapy can help by supporting you to explore the roots of your distress, understand more clearly what’s keeping you stuck, and create new ways to think about yourself and your relationship roles and patterns. By uncovering the obstacles holding you back, you can learn to problem-solve, make better choices, practise healthier coping strategies, and turn your goals into realities to find a greater sense of peace and fulfilment.

I work in an integrative way, which means that my practice is influenced by humanistic, psychodynamic and existential therapies, as well as CBT and DBT methods; this enables me to tailor my approach to suit your individual needs.
Hello and welcome. There are times when we all need extra support to cope with life’s inevitable challenges, which can present themselves in different ways. My role is to offer you a caring, compassionate and confidential space to support you in finding your own way forward in coping with these challenges, and to help you make sense of any thoughts or feelings that you wish to share, or which may emerge during the counselling process. Counselling is different to confiding in family or friends as it it offers a private space to focus on whatever you wish to speak about, without the worry of someone else's feelings or judgements.

I can help with the re framing of negative thoughts with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
I mostly work with clients who have been adversely affected by abuse, trauma, and relationship difficulties. I have extended this to work with couples and relationships. I work by tuning into each client’s individual circumstances and listen to how their life experiences have impacted them. I can offer some solutions, such as coping mechanisms for managing trauma responses such as anxiety and depression. I also offer help in developing practical skills in managing narcissistic behaviour, such as carefully considered boundary setting, recognising that boundaries often come with negative consequences.

As an integrative counsellor I incorporate elements from different theories (such as Person-Centred, Gestalt, CBT, Transpersonal) to suit your needs in the moment.
What if the part of you that feels lost or overwhelmed isn't broken, but just needs to be heard?
You don't have to know where to start - or even if you are ready - and that's okay. Together, we can figure out what you need to move forward.
I don't see people as a list of symptoms to fix, I see you - a whole person, with experiences, strengths and parts of yourself that may feel lost or buried.
