I have had further training in CBT, Gestalt and Compassion-focussed Therapy.
I am experienced in helping clients to deal with anxiety, relationships, trauma, motivational difficulties and questions of purpose and meaning. Clients may also be struggling with feelings about self and about others. Often these feelings can be traced back into childhood experiences which have not been properly processed. Much of my work is helping clients to relieve a sense of being trapped by unhelpful patterns of emotional response and behaviours. Together, we can process past experiences in order to better see the way forward.

You may be the woman who keeps going, keeps giving and keeps abandoning her own needs until burnout forces her to stop. Perhaps you have spent years adapting to what others need, trying to meet expectations or becoming the version of yourself that seems most capable, helpful or acceptable.
You may be caring, thoughtful and spiritually aware, yet still ignore your limits, doubt your inner voice or feel guilty when you put yourself first.
I specialise in supporting spiritually minded women experiencing burnout, chronic stress or overwhelm to reconnect with themselves and break the cycle of self-abandonment.

My work is grounded in an integrative approach, combining Psychodynamic, Gestalt, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy ( CBT) techniques.
For most of my adult life, I have supported individuals who society often considers vulnerable due to complex needs and past trauma. My work has spanned residential care, rehabilitation settings, and women’s centres, giving me deep insight into how trauma shapes lives when coping mechanisms are limited. I have experience working with people affected by substance misuse, involvement in the criminal justice system, abusive relationships, and mental health challenges.

I have worked with a wide range of client issues including anxiety, low confidence and self-esteem, trauma, feelings of depression, self-harm, bereavement and loss, physical and learning disabilities, sexual and gender identity, suicidal intentions and general feelings of low mood and loneliness. As well as allowing clients to talk through their feelings, I have also employed creative techniques including free drawing, letter writing, poetry and songwriting, play scriptwriting and sand tray work. I am trained in Clinical Supervision and EMDR, both of which I find are powerful methods of working.

Have you been through something painful or overwhelming that has left a lasting mark? It may have been a single moment — an accident, an assault, something that happened suddenly and changed everything. Or it may have unfolded over time: a childhood that didn't feel safe, or a workplace that was undermining, humiliating, or unpredictable. These experiences may have contributed to you feeling anxious, low in mood, mistrustful or self-critical — and may have affected your relationships, confidence, or your sense of who you are.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors
How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?
Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.
When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.
How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.
Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
