I have a wide range of experience of working with various client groups from low self-esteem, addiction, sexual orientation, offending behaviour, women's issues, autism, depression/anxiety and bereavement etc.
I have worked as a counsellor for many years and am both passionate and motivated as I was in the beginning. I am particularly passionate about working people who have low self-esteem as I believe this covers so many areas/issues in life. As a woman in my 50’s with various life experience this allows me to empathise and have compasion for others. Having come from a multi-cultural family with Irish roots this gives me a greater understanding of cultural diversity and a sense of belonging. I am a spiritual person who has an interest in mindfulness and Yoga.

Whether it’s anger, bereavement, bullying, life having no purpose, low-self esteem, the menopause, personal development, redundancy or retirement.
Counselling and psychotherapy is about you: your concerns, and your wellbeing. We can talk about me, and what clients say about me later. But for now, let's establish how you can benefit from professional support...... Does any of this sound like you? "I want to reduce stress" "I feel anxious all the time" "I wish I was more confident and less critical about myself " "I want to feel optimistic instead of negative all the time" ...Or perhaps you want some direction in life, become more productive or improve your relationships?

Over the last 23 years I have worked with clients with depression, emotional numbness, low mood, a sense of a lack of purpose, anxiety, low self-esteem, negative or catastrophic thinking, bereavement.
We are living in challengesing times and its impact on our mental health is no surprise. You may never have experienced anxiety or depression before, and so now that can feel daunting, or its familar for you. My experience has enabled me to understand the ways we can look after mental wellbeing. I am supportive, encouraging, patient and calm. I take an active part in the counselling work and I want to understand the cause of your struggle. Sometimes it can help to talk about your past experiences and relationships, gathering insight into how they may impact the present time.

In life, we all experience loss and major changes; we face difficult choices and overwhelming feelings. As a counsellor I know support and self-understanding are key in moving forward positively, but as a human I know this is easier said than done. Finding the right therapist and the consequent process is deeply personal and should be rooted in trust, empathy and an accepting environment. With experience in trauma, addiction and mental health, my focus is you, and the respect and understanding of your unique story and context. Whatever is going on, together we can explore your past, make sense of the present and plan for the future.

Our counselling offers help in addressing the difficult areas of your life. This might involve loss and grief, relationship troubles or problems at work. Equally, there are times when the cause is not clear but you still feel something is wrong. Colleagues, family and friends can be a great source of support but it's not always easy to confide in those closest to you. At times like these, talking to someone who is not personally involved can make a difference. A professional counsellor will listen to you without making judgments and can help you find new resources within yourself.

I specialise with the LGBT+ community, including their family and friends. I can offer a non-judgemental, gentle, accepting confidential space for you to share your issues and concerns, knowing you will not be rejected or discriminated against. I have lived experience of transgender identities, as my son is transgender. I have witnessed the high mental health conditions, suicidal ideation, including self-harm, and loss faced by LGBT+ individuals that I have counselled, along with the hurdles my son has encountered during his transition. I would like to walk with you along your pathway, and consider myself privileged to do so.

At times we may feel stuck or alone, we are being affected by feelings of loss, anxiety, depression or something else which stops us from living fully. Perhaps we notice repeating patterns or habits that we don't know how to change. In these cases, working with an experienced professional through therapeutic coaching and counselling which holds you accountable for your changes can support you to heal, understand yourself (learning new tools and techniques) and access the inner resources you need to move forward.

It can feel daunting to explore whatever issues you are facing. You may be going through a life transition or feel stuck in a loop of old patterns in need of change. You might be experiencing anxiety, grief and loss, or a past trauma might be calling for attention. Or looking to reconnect with your creativity, unblock your flow. I believe in the importance of a collaborative, co-created therapeutic relationship to explore the challenges and possibilities that you bring. We are wired for human connection, and evidence shows that it is the quality of this relationship that is the most important ingredient.

You are not broken. You may be experiencing emotional injury, and/or psychological distress, but this does not communicate brokenness. On the contrary, this communicates an emotional BUILD. You might be struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, women's issues, trauma, grief, loss, low self-esteem, low self-worth, etc. It may even be likely that you have learned how to live in a way that attempts to guard you from any additional emotional injuries. Essentially, your life experiential may have taught you how to build a wall of emotional defense, but that is not your truest self

I have an additional interest in supporting those facing the often-overlooked grief of pet loss, and am also trained in working with spirituality/spiritual issues (any/no faith) as well as being a trainee clinical supervisor.
Reaching out for support can feel intimidating, but life often presents us with challenges that can be overwhelming to face alone. At times, we all need a little assistance to help us navigate through. I am here to offer you that support and will work with you in a holistic manner, considering everything that makes you and your story unique. I often work with clients with low self-esteem, emotional neglect, past trauma and relationship issues, and a significant percentage of my work focuses on supporting those with ADHD & comorbidities (including anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, rejection sensitivity, low confidence).
