I am here to listen. The body and mind work together, and I work holistically to support you through whatever has brought you to seek help. This could be traumas such as bereavement, abuse or relationship difficulties - sometimes there's no specific cause, but a generalised feeling of anxiety or sadness that makes it hard to cope with day to day stresses. Talking to somebody empathic and non-judgemental can help, and I offer a warm, safe and confidential space for us to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions so that you can make sense of them, and find a much better sense of mental wellbeing.

I have particular experience working with bereavement, pregnancy loss, addiction, depression, and all sorts of change.
My training is humanistic and integrative: I'm informed by the empathic, person-centred therapy first developed by Carl Rogers, as well as developmental thinking, such as attachment theory, and psychoanalytical theories relating to how we are shaped by our childhood and past. I've worked with Cruse ( bereavement) and The Swan Project (addiction).

I am Neurodivergent myself & work with many ND clients also with chronic pain, narcasistic relationships, bereavement, depression, anxiety, self harm, low self-esteem, childless not by choice, menopause & many other presenting issues.
It's not always easy to reach out and ask for support. We often feel that we can manage on our own or don't want to bother anyone with our thoughts and feelings. It can be hard to find a balance between work, relationships, family & other commitments to prioritise yourself. No matter what brings you to therapy the most important part is the relationship we will share. I aim to ensure you feel heard & give you a space to work through anything you want to bring to help you have a greater insight & self-awareness and I will walk alongside you on this journey. Counselling isn't a one size fits all package it's as individual as you are.

I work with those who are experiencing anticipatory grief, after learning that a family member or close friend is terminally ill.
Since you are reading this, it’s likely that you’ve made a decision to try and change something in your life for the better. That takes courage, especially when you may be overwhelmed by your thoughts, feelings or behaviours. I understand what it's like to be overwhelmed by life events. I know it’s not always easy talking to family and friends – they want what’s best for you of course, but they may not always be great listeners or be the most empathic; they may want to give you advice about what you should or shouldn't do, without seeing the whole picture. Sometimes you need to be heard confidentially, without judgement.

My specialisms are times of life transitions, particularly bereavement and new parenthood.
My counselling and voluntary sector experience has focused primarily on those going through life transitions: including cancer diagnosis, bereavement and emotional challenges before and after becoming a parent. However people bring all sorts of things into the room so my experience is not limited to the above.

There might have been a bereavement, exam stress, bullying or sudden life changes have had an impact on their self esteem.
In my counselling sessions I use an integrative approach combining aspects of play therapy, psychotherapeutically informed support, newest neuroscientific theories and young people's counselling. Together with the young people I look to find a path for them to cope better with their challenges so they are better supported when facing their difficulties.

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
