I endeavor to work from a holistic approach taking consideration of ways that feel useful to you and enjoy working creatively using art , breath work and in an embodied way.
Whether you are curious to understand yourself and your behaviour in more depth, or in a place of despair, counselling can offer a safe space to be seen, heard, and understood. Together we can explore and understand feelings perhaps too confusing, conflicting, or overwhelming to do so alone. As we build our relationship and you feel safer to explore difficult issues, energy and space can be restored to grow new more satisfying and authentic ways of being with ourselves and others. I offer a warm, safe, robust, and psychologically informed collaborator with specialist interests in PND, ADHD and the mindbody connection.

As an integrative therapist my approach combines creative CBT, mindfulness, somatic inquiry &breath work and art /play therapy.
I work primarily with young adults (18-25yrs), adolescents and children who need a safe and confidential space to explore and communicate their inner world in the context of a warm, sensitive and compassionate atmosphere. Through Play Therapy, I hold a space for a child's deep emotions, thoughts and perceptions to find expression and resolve - puppetry, sand play, drawing and a variety of other mediums are offered. I hold a safe and encouraging space for young adults, older children and adolescents to speak more directly and openly about their feelings & experiences, both past and present.

At some point in life we all need some extra support. A caring and non-judgemental space to feel seen and heard in our experience. Someone to walk alongside us on our journey who is separate from our everyday lives, offering professional guidance & reflection. As a therapist, I aim to offer this in a way that feels congruent and helpful for you. I offer a space for you to process and understand your experience safely. When the world around us can often feel confusing and turbulent, the combination of Psychotherapy and creativity can offer containment, insight and the potential for positive change.

At times we can find it hard to express how we feel, or even locate what emotions we are feeling. If you want to be able to come to a place where you can feel able to express yourself, be honest and feel a better sense of well-being, coming to counselling could be the place to start. Whether you have a specific goal, a problem or feel like you don't know where to start, that's okay, talking can help you get there.

Life can throw many diverse challenges at us: for example loss, crisis and/or change that can cause us to question our sense of direction. I believe that within these challenging times we have the ability to grow and develop – even flourish – through exploring how the emotional, psychological and physical self are interconnected – the way in which one area feeds into another. This path of exploration often requires us to delve into our internal and external worlds: who we are, our authentic selves, others around us as well as the world in which we live.

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
