I am here to listen. The body and mind work together, and I work holistically to support you through whatever has brought you to seek help. This could be traumas such as bereavement, abuse or relationship difficulties - sometimes there's no specific cause, but a generalised feeling of anxiety or sadness that makes it hard to cope with day to day stresses. Talking to somebody empathic and non-judgemental can help, and I offer a warm, safe and confidential space for us to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions so that you can make sense of them, and find a much better sense of mental wellbeing.

Are you suffering with anxiety , panic , depression, stress? Having relationship problems? Struggling with low confidence or self-esteem? Are you angry, irritable, short-tempered, or generally unhappy? Is your mind full of negativity that just doesn't go away? Confused, lost, overwhelmed, unable to concentrate or make decisions? Perhaps you could benefit from professional help. Asking for help is sometimes hard to do - perhaps you see this as a sign of weakness or failure. Sometimes we can't solve everything on our own. It's OK to ask for help. Admitting you have a problem is a sign of strength.

I specialise working with young adults and students aged 18-30 with concerns around anxiety , low mood, self worth, stress and bereavement.
Why counselling - There are times where the pressures of life can leave us feeling overwhelmed. For many of us how we feel within ourselves is crucial in day to day life. Wherever we may find ourselves the process of counselling can give us the ability to sculpt and create a vision of belonging that is both true to ourselves and allows us to flourish. What I provide is a non-judgemental, warm and genuine approach focused on person centred therapy. This approach ensures that the client is held throughout the process and feels comfortable exploring experiences both past and present in a safe environment.

I work with a broad range of difficulties including anxiety and trauma, depression, and relationship difficulties.
Welcome. I am a warm, approachable, and respectful therapist who wants to learn about you. Have you been feeling down, hopeless, or lost? Or perhaps you feel worried, confused, or overwhelmed? You could be concerned for yourself or someone in your family. Maybe something significant has happened recently, or it has slowly dawned on you that things aren't quite right. I’m happy to tell you that we can work together to better understand what’s happening to you. There is an opportunity to feel better than you do now, whether that means recovery or learning to live with how things are at the moment. Change is possible.

I work in private practice and in Secondary schools with many mental health issues such as anxiety , self-harm, low mood, gender dysphoria, self-esteem and confidence. In this difficult world, especially after lockdown, there are so many teenagers struggling emotionally and it is affecting confidence, friendships, family life and school. They want to understand how to understand and manage these emotions in order to be able to process them and move forward. I also work with SEND young people, struggling to understand themselves and why they may struggle emotionally.

I work with women who don’t feel ‘good enough’ to realise their worth and discover their true confidence. Are you overwhelmed by life? Filled with anxiety and constantly waste your energy worrying you’re not good enough or disappointing people? Maybe you can’t quite put your finger on what the problem is, but you know something isn’t quite right. Perhaps you’ve even lost your sense of who you are. You don’t have to feel like this. When life feels too much, we all need a helping hand. Let me be that helping hand. Together we can work towards confidence, calmness, self-esteem and improved relationships in every area of your life.

Psychotherapy can help you with such difficulties as: relationship problems, life transitions, depression, anxiety , identity confusion, and anger. People who engage in individual therapy often speak of improvements in the quality of their relationships, increased confidence and a growing ability to take risks and make changes in their lives. Problems in partner relationships can be complex and sometimes destructive and limiting, with roots in childhood difficulties. Couples therapy seeks to understand the underlying issues and conflicts, resolve difficulties and find an agreed way forward.

The most common problems I see include: Panic Attacks, Agoraphobia, Health Anxiety , Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Phobias.
CBT is an ideal treatment for clients who are looking to change, whether that be to make some changes in the way in which they think about things, or some changes in the way in which they go about day to day life. Some of this change may involve learning new skills, for example, assertiveness. In addition to helping clients feel confident and autonomous throughout treatment, CBT can also help clients come to an understanding of 'why', E.G. what is it about you, your experiences and vulnerabilities which perhaps help explain why you struggle with X (E.G. Anxiety ). This is often validating and helpful rather than self blaming.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
