I am currently offering in person, online video and telephone counselling by appointment. If you are currently looking for a counsellor it may well be that you have reached a point of change. You can no longer put up with the current situation you feel you are in. You may be suffering anxious feelings or low mood, or be struggling with
anger
and frustration, or any number of other concerns. These are feelings that we all experience from time to time, but they can be limiting and have an effect on our general happiness and satisfaction with life.

Hello, I'm Jenny, an accredited CBT/REBT therapist based in Bristol. I offer my clients a combination of a compassionate, respectful and non-judgemental space in which to share their experiences and problems, and an approach to therapy that is focused on equipping them to achieve their goals. I'm a big believer in people’s ability to change their own situations and I see my job as being to help my clients see the power and agency they have over how they experience their lives, where many feel stuck, helpless, or like 'victims of circumstance'. I'm especially interested in working with anxiety, anxiety disorders, and
anger
.

I am particularly interested in
anger
, rage, anxiety and depression.
Psychotherapy deals with current problems. You may come because of a particular relationship issue or you may not be sure exactly what the problem is but find yourself repeating painful or limiting patterns in life. It may only be through talking to someone that you gain an understanding of what you want to work on. Therapy can be a gradual unfolding process where you have the opportunity to understand how you have become the person you are. This may include talking about how the past has influenced you, exploring your relationships then and now and the way you respond to your life as it is.

Perhaps you are at a stage where you have already understood your
anger
towards others and now want to learn to forgive and nurture your ability to give compassion.
I aim to help you explore what it's like to be you in your world through the lens of compassion. Whatever issues or stories you bring, the best way for both of us to understand your pain is through cultivating self- compassion. This means accepting who you are in this very moment. This can seem like a strange idea if you want to change. But change is more likely with the mindful approach of being with what is. This doesn't mean that I won't gently challenge you or recognise that you might feel stuck. But it is my intention that I will be grounded in acceptance.

Whether it’s
anger
, bereavement, bullying, life having no purpose, low-self esteem, the menopause, personal development, redundancy or retirement.
Counselling and psychotherapy is about you: your concerns, and your wellbeing. We can talk about me, and what clients say about me later. But for now, let's establish how you can benefit from professional support...... Does any of this sound like you? "I want to reduce stress" "I feel anxious all the time" "I wish I was more confident and less critical about myself " "I want to feel optimistic instead of negative all the time" ...Or perhaps you want some direction in life, become more productive or improve your relationships?

In my practice I draw on more than ten years' experience of working in the mental health field with clients who have been facing anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, neurodivergence, relationship difficulties,
anger
, lack of confidence, bereavement, loneliness etc.
Most of our emotional wounds stem from difficult relationships we've had with others and I believe they can be most effectively healed within the supportive environment of empathy, attunement and deep interest in you as a person. Hence I put at the core of my approach building a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship that can foster healing, growth, learning and development.

Anger
/emotion regulation.
Sometimes difficulties can have a major impact on our well-being, relationships or work. Maybe friends and family can offer some support but we may also choose to see a qualified and experienced practitioner, who can provide a safe space in which to work with whatever is going on for us. I have a wide range of experience, which includes working in an NHS psychology department, at university as Associate Lecturer, in a GP practice as a Lead Therapist and Supervisor, delivering Integrative Therapy (using Person-Centred and Psychodynamic approaches) , CBT and CFT (Compassion-Focussed Therapy) to NHS services and in private practice.

Anger Management Counsellors
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
