Hello, I am Isabella. I offer a compassionate and non-judgmental space for you to talk and to be heard. I see the relationship we build together as central. Our work together might include exploring difficult feelings or thoughts in the present and how they may connect to past experiences and relationships. I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists), graduate member of the BPS (British Psychological Society) and a counselling psychologist in training (clinical training completed, currently at the end of writing up my research thesis).

Psychotherapy can be a useful tool in helping us to manage life's difficulties. It can be a place for you to explore issues that you are currently struggling with, such as anxiety or depression, or just an opportunity to understand yourself better. In my practice, I am specifically interested in working with you to create more self-acceptance. This can look different for different people, but in general it will involve a compassionate and empathic exploration of past experiences, and how they might interact with our present circumstances, to see how each may be creating blocks in our lives from a healthy expression of our feelings.

Hello, I'm Jenny, an accredited CBT/REBT therapist based in Bristol. I aim to offer my clients a combination of a compassionate, respectful and non-judgemental space in which to share their experiences and problems, and an approach to therapy that is focused on equipping them to achieve their goals. I'm a big believer in people’s ability to change their own situations and I see my job as being to help my clients see the power and agency they have over how they experience their lives, where many feel stuck, helpless, or like 'victims of circumstance'. I'm especially interested in working with anxiety, anxiety disorders, and anger.

I love to work with people who are interested in getting to the root of their issues and are open minded to exploring novel approaches. Coping mechanisms can provide useful ways for us to function in life, but it is only when we get to the heart of an issue that a lasting solution can be found. If you are looking for deep and lasting change, then this approach may be right for you.

"I am fascinated about Humans' ability to heal their emotional wounds when they feel supported and accompanied on their personal life path. We all have greater potential and resources than we think. A lot of the times it is difficult to access these for various reasons. Therapy can help with explore our ways and difficulties to relate to ourselves and others. It facilitates the journey towards finding / becoming yourself".

Welcome- starting psychotherapy is a brave decision, and I offer a safe and confidential space to explore whatever it is that has brought you here. Psychotherapy can be a challenging yet also a very exhilarating experience. It is the art of learning to live fully and inhabiting your potential. Change can come from examining and talking through old habits of negative self perceptions, and bringing compassion to self-judgment. Being from a creative background myself, I am open to all means of expression and communication in the therapy space, whether it be spoken, drawn, sung or played.

Why counselling - There are times where the pressures of life can leave us feeling overwhelmed. For many of us how we feel within ourselves is crucial in day to day life. Wherever we may find ourselves the process of counselling can give us the ability to sculpt and create a vision of belonging that is both true to ourselves and allows us to flourish. What I provide is a non-judgemental, warm and genuine approach focused on person centred therapy. This approach ensures that the client is held throughout the process and feels comfortable exploring experiences both past and present in a safe environment.

Counselling for men who don't want counselling ... Many men see therapy as a waste of time and money, a one-sided converastion, solely focused on feelings, with little opportunity for you to fix things yourself. You want to go it alone. The very notion of discussing your private life with a stranger makes you recoil. You really want to be okay. You really want to just have your life together. But you cant' seem to stop being moody, angry, agressive, jealous and, sometimes even, suicidal. You may be drinking too much, using drugs or gambling too much. Deep down, you're suffering and so are the people around you.

Firstly, welcome. Perhaps you’ve been living day-to-day and realise that you no longer recognise who you are and you’re not the person you used to be. You feel strongly that this isn’t you and you’re more than this. Maybe there has been a recent significant life change or it might be this way of being has slowly crept up and happened over time. You may have just tried to get on with things and think tomorrow will be better but nothing changes and you don’t know where to turn. Sometimes you feel low or anxious, you want things to change but you’re not sure where to begin and now your relationships, work, education are being affected.

I work primarily with young adults (18-25yrs), adolescents and children who need a safe and confidential space to explore and communicate their inner world in the context of a warm, sensitive and compassionate atmosphere. Through Play Therapy, I hold a space for a child's deep emotions, thoughts and perceptions to find expression and resolve - puppetry, sand play, drawing and a variety of other mediums are offered. I hold a safe and encouraging space for young adults, older children and adolescents to speak more directly and openly about their feelings & experiences, both past and present.

I have a particular interest in trauma and how it impacts our nervous system: PTSD and C-PTSD, dissociation, hearing voices, addictive behaviours and coping mechanisms and their link to childhood trauma; 'ACE's' (Adverse Childhood Experiences), and how these affect us as adults. Trauma comes in many forms; obvious, overt ones such as physical or sexual abuse, car accidents, war, disasters etc, and also less obvious or covert forms like emotional abuse or neglect, bullying, or just 'not getting what we need' on an emotional level. I'm a member of ISST-D, a trainee member of UKCP and BCPC, and have specialist trauma training.

How can I find a therapist in Redland, Bristol?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
