June 2022 - I am currently fully booked and not taking on any new clients until September 2022. Many of us have times in our lives when we feel the need for some extra support. Perhaps we are lacking confidence and self-esteem, going through relationship difficulties, feeling depressed , anxious, experiencing stressful life changes such as bereavement, divorce, or redundancy. Perhaps now is the right time to address long-standing issues – or maybe we find ourselves at a crossroads and feel unsure of ourselves and of which way to turn.

I am currently full and unable to take on new clients. You may be seeking counselling for a specific issue such as: stress, anxiety, depression , low self-esteem or feeling sad and these are all good reasons for seeking support. Alternatively your reason might be more difficult to put into words, not everyone has an identifiable reason for seeking support. Whatever your reason for counselling, I provide a confidential and non-judgmental space where your experiences, thoughts and feelings can be expressed and explored.

I can help people who are experiencing all levels of distress and unhappiness. You may have feelings of dissatisfaction and a sense that you are not getting all that you want in your life. At the other end of the spectrum you may be finding that every day is a real struggle with strong, even overwhelming, feelings of depression , anxiety, stress, anger etc. I believe that all of us want to strive to feel happier and more fulfilled than we currently are. We want to feel a connection with other people and to have a sense that we are leading meaningful, enjoyable lives - even when at times we feel at a loss as to how to achieve this.

I have experience of working with clients with a wide variety of issues, including complex family dynamics, stress, long term health issues, anxiety and depression , but have an ongoing interest in working with people who are recently bereaved or experiencing a life changing loss.
I will invite you to be curious about yourself in sessions, to explore how you relate to others and how you respond in the situations you find yourself in. I will work with you in the here and now of the session to help raise your awareness of thought processes, emotions, and behaviours and how they might manifest relationally between us. This may include reflecting on how difficult past experiences might be influencing you in the present, emotionally, cognitively and somatically. Raising awareness of these responses can help to cultivate a more self-accepting attitude and more resilience when facing life’s challenges.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
