Hi, I'm Brett. My aim is to provide you with a confidential, supportive space where you feel safe to talk about whatever is distressing you or holding you back in life. I believe that the relationship between client and therapist is key to the outcome of therapy. My priority is to build a relationship of trust where we can work together for therapeutic change.
My passion is working with individuals to help them overcome obstacles and become a healthier, happier version of themselves. All of us struggle with mental health difficulties at some point in our lives and so I believe that therapy should be seen as an act of self-care, just like looking after our physical health. Addressing mental health concerns can be overwhelming and it may be difficult to know where to start. Working together with a therapist helps you to identify the cause of your problems and break these down into more manageable chunks. I provide a safe, supportive environment for you to start to make positive changes.
I have been working as a counsellor for the past 17 years and work with clients from age 17 years and above. I have a warm and empathic way of being and my aim is to provide you with a confidential and safe space where you can talk through your problems freely, we can work through your difficulties together and I will support you in finding a way forward. I will adapt the therapy to suit your needs drawing on my training and experience, your therapy can be either short of long-term, I am committed to working in the best way for you.
I believe the most important thing in counselling is to develop a relationship of trust and confidence between therapist and client. I provide clients with a safe, confidential and warm space for them to reflect on the challenges they bring. Coming to counselling can be a daunting step; as a result it is that much more important to come into an accepting, empathic, non-judgemental environment. I take the view that there is no single approach that can be helpful to you in all situations. This gives more choice of how you want to look at your issues and creates flexibility to tailor therapy to your individual needs and aspirations.
Therapy is your time to be curious about how you feel and who you are. Part of the therapeutic experience is enquiring into how things are between us, working in present time to illuminate what happens in relationship. Together we create a space where your own wisdom and understanding can emerge using compassion and kindness. With the intention of bringing a new understanding and capacity around key issues we look at your reactions to situations. Working together we seek to use the present moment to integrate and metabolise difficult experience. I find using humour in therapy can be a useful instrument for change.
Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, panic attacks, challenging life transitions, loss? Do you feel stuck? Do you have unresolved family issues? Talking to a counsellor can help. I offer a safe, warm and non-judgemental space where we can explore your difficulties with the aim of understanding more about your feelings, thoughts and behaviour - enabling you to move forward with your life with a greater sense of well being and new strategies for navigating this complex world!
I have over 20 years of experience working in the NHS, specialising in child and adolescent mental health. This has allowed me to gain extensive experience in working with children, adolescents, young people, siblings and parents to overcome a wide range of psychological, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Perhaps you feel you've lost part of your identity, impacting on your sense of purpose and self-worth. I know it can be incredibly hard to express what you truly feel and need to others. I offer a supportive and non-judgmental space for you to work through current issues, as well as difficulties from your past. I specialise in supporting people with long-term conditions (e.g. chronic pain, depression, cancer), and also work with a range of wider issues (e.g. PTSD and trauma).
I offer a welcoming space for you to explore whatever is happening in your life and support you to face difficult circumstances, feelings and relationships, finding new perspectives and resources. I use Processwork, a creative approach to therapy and facilitation, to help clients work things through in a professional and confidential space. In troubling times it can sometimes feel like you are alone & seeking help might feel really difficult. Just having a space to make sense of the thoughts that jumble around our heads is invaluable. Perhaps you need to understand yourself, your relationships or events from your past. Sometimes all we need is someone to just listen and hear our story. Counselling promotes insight, fosters self-awareness & creates a stronger, more resilient sense of self. This powerful combination can be the kick-start for the changes in your life you wish to make - sometimes even the smallest changes can make a huge difference in your well-being.
