With 25 years of experience in counselling & psychotherapy I aim to help couples & individuals understand emotions and how to get more from their relationships. Some want to renew a long gone passion and others are just fighting to stay together - the answer is often found by looking at new ways to communicate with each other rather than fixing a disagreement. There will be reasons for your behaviour that make sense and I will help you to uncover these throughout our sessions together. You may have an ‘arguing style’ and by looking more deeply, at your inner hurt and anger, we will be able to discover what is really going on.

Whatever the issue, I don’t think you are broken or that you need to be fixed. If you struggle, it is because life can be difficult and figuring out how to comfortably and confidently be yourself, interact with others, and engage with the world is not always easy. Therapy can help with that.

Sometimes we long for change, or find ourselves asking, ‘What is 'wrong' with me?’. Perhaps there’s an obvious reason - loss, life worries or a troubled relationship. Just as bad is when you can’t find a reason, you feel ‘nothing’. You lose emotional connection to life, others and yourself. This leads to inner conflict – different parts of you seem to want different things. One part is lonely, another is scared to connect. One part wants success, another wants to zone out. One part wants confidence, another wants to hide behind the curtains. You end up gridlocked into feelings and a life you don't want. I know, I've been there.

A warm welcome to my profile page. I have over twenty years experience working in mental health, and I'm here to offer compassionate, non judgemental support, be that with managing the stresses of everyday life, making personal changes or navigating your way through a crisis. People are individuals, and I'm commited to the idea that the support they receive should reflect this and come from a place of positive personal empowerment. I truly believe that difficult times and challenges offer an opportunity for personal growth and development, but also that you don't just have to 'survive' them ,you can come out thriving.

Many of my clients are the ones others turn to - driven, reliable, capable, and holding themselves to high standards. But beneath that, they feel overwhelmed, burnt out, and unsure whether they will ever feel 'enough'. Maybe you tie your worth to being useful, or you're wondering if your difficulties are linked to childhood patterns or undiagnosed ADHD. You might face impostor syndrome at work or feel stuck in relationship patterns where you give more than you get. You may have grown up fast, learned to over-function, and struggle with boundaries. You want to feel seen, grounded, validated, and live from self-worth, not self-doubt.

If you’re reading this, it probably means you’re thinking about starting therapy – maybe for the first time. Fair play for making it here. I know it won’t have been easy. Sadly, most guys don’t make it this far. But you did – so well done. I specialise in working with men who feel stuck, ashamed or emotionally flat. You might be functioning well enough, but you know there’s something deeper… and maybe haven’t ever spoken about. Whether it’s a long-standing issue or something that’s come up recently – addiction, anger, burnout, relationships, identity, porn or loss – we work together to understand what’s really going on for you.

I also specialise in working with patients and carers of those living with rare or chronic medical conditions, SEN, and Autism. I understand how overwhelming it can feel when life seems out of control, and how heavy it can be to carry it all. Together, we will explore your feelings, build resilience, and work towards rediscovering balance, peace, and purpose. Above all, I provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can truly be seen and heard.

Weight Loss Counsellors
What is the relationship between weight management and mental health?
Mental health can be significantly influenced by one's physical health, so overall improvements in one's quality of life as a result of improved physical functioning from weight loss can have an overall positive impact on an individual's mental health and allow them to engage more readily in everyday activities. In addition, many strategies used to manage weight, such as exercise and maintaining a healthy diet, are also associated with reducing the symptoms of common mental health conditions, such as anxiety or depression. Individuals may also benefit from the improved self-esteem and self-efficacy that can come with successful weight management.

What is the psychological approach to losing weight?
While there are no specific therapy modalities specifically for weight loss, common psychological therapies can be highly effective in helping clients make lasting lifestyle changes. This may be called the "psychological approach" to weight loss because it does not rely on physical interventions, such as medication or weight loss surgery, to help clients lose weight. Weight loss counselling can be used in addition to or instead of such physical interventions. Some clients simply seek therapy to address the challenges that may accompany weight loss in general, including negative thoughts surrounding their body, disordered eating patterns, or difficulty completing daily tasks as a result of their weight challenges. In such cases, therapists will often utilise behavioural coaching or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques to help clients understand how their thoughts may be influencing their diet and physical activity patterns.

What type of therapy is commonly used in weight loss counselling?
Weight loss counseling often involves a combination of therapy and psychoeducation. Common techniques used by weight loss counselors include journalling, thought diaries, and other Cognitive Behavioural Therapy strategies that encourage clients to consider how their feelings about their weight loss impact their mental health. Weight loss counsellors may also teach clients mindfulness exercises, which can be used by clients during and after eating to be more aware of physical cues from their body surrounding eating. Some clients looking for weight loss therapy may also benefit from group therapy approaches, which utilise the power of social connection and accountability to help clients adhere to their weight loss plan.

Is therapy recommended for individuals undergoing bariatric surgery?
While therapy is not a requirement for individuals undergoing bariatric surgery, many individuals undergoing weight loss surgery may benefit from seeing a counsellor. Prior to surgery, counsellors can help clients decide whether surgical weight loss is a good fit for them and assist in surgery preparation. Post-surgery, counsellors can assist clients with the psychological component of maintaining their weight loss, as well as help clients navigate any postoperative pain. Throughout the surgical process, therapists can help clients process body-image challenges that may come with dramatic changes in weight, as well as manage symptoms of anxiety or depression that may accompany the major life changes bariatric surgery can bring.
