Eating means nourishing ourselves. But what if its filled with fear? When our body and brain lack a sense of safety we become anxious about eveything. Maybe you find the need to control everything inteferes with your enjoyment of eating or that your body and shape are so important as an identity that you struggle to enjoy other important aspects of life. Maybe you notice a need to exercise thats becoming a personal demand rather than enjoyable. These are subtle changes that we dont always notice straight away and can be a warning signal about our relationshiip to our bodies.

Hi I'm Jo, I am here to support you on your journey towards emotional wellbeing and personal growth. I have an interest in working with anxiety, relationship issues, low self esteem and attachment issues and have also worked with clients who are struggling with depression, loss and grief and suicidal thoughts. I use Person Centred and Somatic approaches which means that I work on the basis of what you decide bring to each session with compassion and warmth and I may also work with bodily experiencing as a way to help to regulate the nervous system when thoughts and emotions feel overwhelming.

Art therapy is a powerful and reflective process that encourages creativity and exploration of our inner worlds. The freedom of art-making bypasses the limitations of verbal language, allowing for a healing and instinctual experience. Through art, communication is enriched, and emotions find a new avenue of expression. Art therapy invites you to experiment without the need for prior artistic expertise. We can move between art therapy and talking therapy, depending on what feels right in the moment. There is no pressure to use art materials.

Have you ever felt an unpleasant heaviness on your chest or tummy? There may be a struggle to articulate your thoughts, leading to a sensation of suffocation in your throat. Have you ever felt like avoiding others for fear of getting hurt, or you may have felt disconnected and unheard? You want to show strength and courage; instead, you feel afraid and helpless.

I am an experienced therapist working with both couples and individuals. I work with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, bereavement, career issues and relationships. If you are a couple, you may be attending therapy to work through a particular challenge or event, to maintain a relationship that's essentially working well, or to consider ending a relationship kindly and respectfully. Whether you're attending individually or as a couple, at the start of our work, we'll identify what you want to achieve from counselling. Whether your aims are abstract or specific, we can work towards them together.

I offer an integrative approach that combines talking therapy with creative, somatic, and experiential techniques, so we're not just thinking about what's going on, but exploring how it lives in your body, emotions, and nervous system too. This isn't about 'fixing' yourself, it's about building awareness, self-compassion, and a genuine sense of choice. You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck, noticing that talking things through alone hasn't been enough. Perhaps your body holds tension, pain, or fatigue that words don't reach. You may identify as neurodivergent, live with chronic pain, or simply feel things more intensely

The Joy of my work is meeting people from many walks of life, each with their own unique story. I am an experienced counsellor within the LGBTQ+ community (of which I am a part). I also have lived experience of neurodiversity and have supported many neurodivergent clients. I work affirmatively with these communities although my practice is open to all. Many of us struggle to make sense of ourselves or to find belonging. You may be living with anxiety or depression or wanting to explore spiritual or relational issues. Maybe you are experiencing a difficult transition or longing for change but feeling stuck or hopeless.

I'm a HCPC registered Art Therapist. Part of the support I offer is art therapy groups, which take place on Zoom with myself and co-therapist Anne Stegmann. Group members can be based anywhere across the UK. The online art therapy groups have been designed to provide a space for exploring thoughts, feelings and situations using art. Using creatively to detangle and make sense of our situations. The group format allows group members to join together, reflect and feel the support from each other. As time goes on the groups' connection will deepen, allowing this to become a powerfully connected, creative, safe space.

Within the safety of an empathic, non judgemental relationship, I aim to help people develop a greater understanding of themselves and the difficulties they are experiencing. I work in a flexible way that draws on a variety of theoretical models, and adapt my approach to the individual’s needs and particular goals. This often involves looking at both the current context and past influences, and working with the body to process past trauma, as well as learning strategies that enable people to live more fully in the present. I can offer long term, explorative work or a more focused time limited approach.
