My work with adults covers areas such as addiction, bereavement, meaning in midlife, self-esteem and self-loathing, low mood, anxiety, health-based trauma and
relationship
breakdown.
Understanding ourselves, the decisions and choices we make and our relationships with others can sometimes be baffling. You may find yourself acting or behaving in ways that you struggle to align with your personal principles, wishes or desires. At times, your experience may suggest that your way of being doesn't blend with the world around you and you might find yourself meeting resistance from people or institutions. Therapy gives us the chance to explore these challenges together. We can look at your relationships with others and the meaning you make of them, helping to develop your insight, self-awareness and self-acceptance.

I hope that by reading my profile you can now sense that I will offer you a safe and understanding counselling
relationship
.
Have you been struggling in some areas of your life and now want space to understand your own thoughts and feelings in a confidential setting? Talking about your self might not be very easy at times. Have you received unwanted advice, opinions or judgement from friends, family and colleagues when you've tried to open up and then felt shut down again? Counselling gives you that safe, supportive and affirmative space to share about the issues that matter to you, at your own pace and in your own way. Together we can look at anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, bereavement/loss, sex, and relationships. Is it time to talk?

Counselling and Psychotherapy can be a space to explore current or past concerns, desires and hopes. You may be wanting to get to grips with an aspect of yourself that keeps tripping you up or is holding you back in some way. You may be struggling with current losses,
relationship
difficulties, adversity, or have a sense of longing that you cannot make sense of. You may have experienced a sense of low self-esteem/ self-worth due to early experiences of being misunderstood or unaccepted for who you are or have experienced neglectful parenting or trauma or simply need a space in your life to figure something out.

I offer you a warm, compassionate and non-judgmental approach. You may want to talk about anything from family or
relationship
issues, anxiety, anger, depression, loss or whatever is important to you. All of us experience emotional difficulties at some point in our lives. We can find it hard to cope. Counselling provides a safe and confidential space where you can talk about what is happening in your life, explore thoughts and feelings, find ways to cope and help begin to think about a way forward. Counselling can offer general support or can focus on more specific issues.

It’s hard to be human. Sometimes we all need a bit of help. A place to take stock. Work out where we are or process uncomfortable feelings - maybe old traumas that are still causing us problems in a our day to day lives. Improve our relationships and discover what might be holding us back. Recover from grief or change. Challenge ourselves - unblock our creativity - find our flow! Build our sense of self - come out of darkness and find hope. Therapy is a space for you and a
relationship
that offers support and challenge and skills to make these changes.

The decision to try therapy can seem very daunting, but you have already taken the first step if you are here in this directory. Dealing with difficult issues, loss, bereavement, trauma, divorce/separation, identity , etc can feel utterly overwhelming. Initially, the prospect of sharing such experience may feel like a step too far. My own and clients’ experiences have shown me time & again that it is through the process of talking therapy that in sharing the burden the healing can begin. I have a passionate belief in the power of the wounded, with support, to find some reconciliation, with themselves, their history & in
relationship

My approach intersects somatic psychology and humanistic integrative therapy. I am curious about how you see the world, what matters to you, and how you are feeling physically, mentally and spiritually. Grounded in the idea of holding a warm and non-judgmental space, I’m passionate about looking at a wide variety of tools that might suit you towards growth, healing, transformation and embodied presence. My work is focused on the
relationship
between body, emotions, thoughts and imagination. As an additional resource, if you are interested in creative writing, drawing or movement, we can explore a non-verbal language.

Many people come to see me because they have very difficult family relationships, some are estranged, some are struggling to move forwards in life due to relationships with their
partner
, children, parents breaking down. Some people are adjusting to their own changing identity, such as becoming a parent, or approaching retirement, and want some space to reflect on this in a supportive and thoughtful space. Some people are stuck in a past trauma, such as adverse childhood experiences or a religious trauma, and worry they will never move on.

My areas of specific focus are depression &stress, bereavement, gender, sexuality &
relationship
diversity (GSRD), terminal & chronic conditions, eco-anxiety, and neurodiversity.
Across 9 years of psychodynamic therapy practice, I have evolved an approach informed by my concurrent practices as artist and gardener: nurturing, growth and transformation infuse our work together, both informing and cultivating the discovery of where and how we can live in ourselves and the world. The work of therapy resides in a space that we cultivate together - a space where meaning can be made or found - it is a place in the clearing. Here, lives and held views can be encouraged to be found, to be heard, and to potentially transform.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
