Being human isn't easy... We all have times in life where things feel too much to cope with alone. Maybe you feel stuck, or lost. Maybe you’ve lost sight of what is important, or feel like life lacks hope or purpose. It might have been a long time coming and you’ve been feeling like this for a while, or maybe something has happened which has left you shocked, numb or filled with sadness,
anger
, or fear.

Every person has their own unique story. What happens in our lives as our story unfolds shapes who we are, how we see and experience the world, how we feel about it and where we fit within it. Counselling can help you discover more about who you are, learn about your relationships, understand past events and how you developed, help you have deeper understanding of yourself and learn new ways to live your life. Counselling can help you change from feeling that your story is being written for you and learn how to start writing it for yourself. I currently have availability to take new clients.

I typically work with people wrestling with anxiety, despair,
anger
, and shame; who struggle with guilt, mistrust, addiction, and dissociation; who are self-critical, self-destructive, and who feel trapped in repeated patterns of hurting self and others. Such feelings, behaviours, and patterns of relating often stem from multiple and complex life events and circumstances, including past and present abusive and neglectful relationships, abandonment, bereavement, bullying, trauma, racism, sexism, gender expectations, parenthood, study/work/financial pressures, and more existential challenges such as finding meaning in life and death.

My transdiagnostic approach using REBT enables me to teach clients how to restructure their thinking related to their behaviours and emotions, whether that be unhealthy
anger
, anxiety, depression or jealousy, to name a few.
My clients have been of all ages and backgrounds. The commonality is the need to find practical and positive solutions to managing complicated emotions. By setting realistic and achievable goals, together, my clients and I forge a path forward for them, learning new thinking skills as we go, alongside home progress tasks and behavioural work too. It's a very collaborative experience and one which is powered by my clients' desire to change. I support people living through periods of anxiety or depression, relationship issues and self-development. An initial assessment session will help us decide if this therapy is right for you.

From time to time everyone experiences stress, sadness,
anger
, relational conflict and grief which we often suffer alone. Accepting help from others can be difficult but maybe you feel you’ve toughing it out on your own for too long. Whether you are struggling with an identifiable trauma or you’ve reached a point where recurring feelings are becoming unmanageable; a course of psychotherapeutic counselling may help you make sense of what is happening and enable you to gain and maintain some stability. Feelings of fear,
anger
, rejection and lack of confidence are difficult areas and discussing them with friends too raw and personal.

Couples Counselling will help you to understand your emotions and discover a new intimacy. I talk to couples every day who are wanting more from their relationships. Some want to renew a long gone passion and others are just fighting to stay together - the answer is often found by looking at new ways to communicate with each other rather than fixing a disagreement. There will be reasons for your behaviour that make sense and I will help you to uncover these throughout our sessions together. You may have an ‘arguing style’ and by looking more deeply, at your inner hurt and
anger
, we will be able to discover what is really going on.

Do you feel you don’t have goals or you can’t achieve them although you have tried everything? Do you feel paralysed or overwhelmed facing certain situations? Do you feel everything is annoying or your
anger
, sadness or fear last for long time? Do you feel stuck with some thoughts and you can’t stop overthinking them? Do you see these features within a member of your family? I think everyone will feel like this over the course of our lives, even it can be adaptative. However, sometimes we can struggle to find clarity and understanding , at the same time that respect both ourselves and others.

How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
