Unresolved childhood issues & trauma Counselling can be an effective way in which to make sense of past issues and patterns of behaviour in order to see how aspects of past history are perhaps getting in the way. Perhaps you are struggling to accept a change in your life or want to look at unfinished business from the past. Working through this in Counselling can help come to terms with change or loss in a more manageable way. Anxiety can gradually build up when perhaps we find ourselves overloaded by stressful circumstances. When we feel anxious it can be overwhelming and debilitating. It can become very hard to see clearly.

Hi, I'm Kristin. I have been a counsellor for over fifteen years, and have been blessed and trusted with countless stories of the human experience. I consider it an honour and a privilege to help others purposefully and consciously connect with their own power. We all, at times, need support and guidance as we become aware of what we need to heal and attempt to navigate life’s challenges with authenticity and grace. It takes courage and vulnerability to ask for help; and sometimes it takes patience and commitment to find the right help. If you are curious to find out how I can help you…let’s chat.

I work relationally to help clients understand how past experiences and relationships might be impacting current difficulties. Therapy can help make changes to these often hard-wired patterns and facilitate the development of more healthy fulfilling relationships. By building a relationship based upon trust, empathy and acceptance therapy enables a greater awareness and understanding of how and where difficulties have arisen and provides the conditions for change to occur.

The decision to try therapy can seem very daunting, but you have already taken the first step if you are here in this directory. Dealing with difficult issues, loss, bereavement, trauma, divorce/separation, identity , etc can feel utterly overwhelming. Initially, the prospect of sharing such experience may feel like a step too far. My own and clients’ experiences have shown me time & again that it is through the process of talking therapy that in sharing the burden the healing can begin. I have a passionate belief in the power of the wounded, with support, to find some reconciliation, with themselves, their history & in relationship

I offer you a warm, compassionate and non-judgmental approach. You may want to talk about anything from family or relationship issues, anxiety, anger, depression, loss or whatever is important to you. All of us experience emotional difficulties at some point in our lives. We can find it hard to cope. Counselling provides a safe and confidential space where you can talk about what is happening in your life, explore thoughts and feelings, find ways to cope and help begin to think about a way forward. Counselling can offer general support or can focus on more specific issues.

Whether you are suffering from increased anxiety or overwhelm, depression, burnout, relationship difficulties or marriage problems, you don’t have to go around feeling like this. As a therapist with additional and diverse life skills and interests, I can help you feel better, and quickly. Every situation is unique, but when working with you, I will aim to get to the nub of any problems quickly and effectively, and to provide practical solutions. For deeper trauma we can shift into a longer relationship, using IFS or Narm. I can show you how things can be better for you, using evidence based and trauma-informed methods.

Teen Counsellors

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
