When life moves at 100 miles an hour, it’s easy for anxiety and low self-confidence to take hold, especially under the pressure to be everything to everyone.
I’m passionate about providing my clients with a safe, supportive, and confidential space to process their thoughts and feelings, gain clarity, and develop more effective coping strategies. Practicing a person-centred approach, while drawing on other evidence-based techniques, I meet you where you are and build each session around your individual needs.

If any of this resonates with you, my existential approach will help you explore and process any trauma in your past; pain in the present and anxiety about the future.
Simply put, existential therapy provides an opportunity to explore what it means to be alive and to find a way of living at peace with ourself and all the challenges and opportunities life presents - before it's too late. In the words of Colin Wright, 'You have exactly one life in which to do everything you will ever do. Act accordingly.'

A warm welcome to you. I want to help you transform your relationships through understanding yourself and what happens in your communication with others. When you can appreciate why you respond in certain ways and how you can effect change, you can feel liberated and comfortable in moving forward. It is no surprise that at times it can be a troubling event, a new challenge, or some discomfort in your life that compels you to take the time to discover your inner strengths, your own worth, and what it will take to overcome these challenges.

I offer therapeutic counselling to children, young people and adults. I have worked with children and young people within education for just over 20 years. I also educated myself further in Forest School and taught outdoors. Throughout this time is where I learned a great deal about the benefits of nature and the natural effects it has on health and well-being. I trained as a person centred therapist because I am passionate about empowering people to learn more about themselves and strive for positive change. I also experienced my own difficulties and trauma during childhood

I will work alongside you to understand, and support you, and actively engage with your concerns, and worries.
Acknowledging that you need to talk to someone else other than a family member or a friend is the first step, which can be very challenging. I understand it takes courage to share your vulnerable parts with someone you don’t know but I also believe that it can be very powerful, and a life changing experience. In my work I provide a space, where you can discover things about yourself you perhaps haven’t been aware of before. I am passionate about connecting with an inner child we sometimes dismiss or forget about due to demands, and responsibilities that life brings.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
