I have been working for over 21 years with people who have a wide range of issues including, relationship and work problems, low self esteem, addictions and other forms of self harm, abuse, eating disorders, bereavement as well as people who suffer from stress and anxiety or feel low, depressed and suicidal. I am also qualified to work with couples and groups about relationships. Most of my training and work as a counsellor has been about really learning to listen to people, hearing the ‘music’ behind their words and sensing their deepest feelings, hurts, joys and fears as it is then that therapeutic healing can occur.

Seeking counselling is brave and necessary step when life is overwhelming. Perhaps you feel continually anxious for no good reason, or experience crushingly low moods too much of the time. The loss of a loved one, or a job can provoke a crisis. Or you may be going through unforeseen change in your life which has taken you into uncharted territory. Most people face relationship difficulties sometimes. Discrimination, abuse or bullying may leave you feeling isolated and helpless. If you want to find strength to face such difficulties, solve problems and renew your sense of purpose and joy, I can help.

Are you autistic, Aspergers or ADHD, or suspect you might be?
As a late-diagnosed autistic ADHD person, I've been there too. I know what it's like to be different and feel like I don't fit in. But counselling with me can help. Talking about your experiences and your feelings can help you feel more comfortable in your own skin and discover that 'different' isn't always a bad thing.

Having discovered my own neurodiversity later in life, I now work particularly with teen and adult ND clients - ADHD, ADD, ASD - coming to terms with the implications of adult diagnosis, but I also work with those struggling with anxiety, stress, depression and bereavement.
I draw together personal experience with understanding. 20 years ago I was suicidally depressed. In recent years I have discovered that I am neurodiverse with strong OCD tendencies! Coming to terms successfully with an adult diagnosis is a matter of daily choices not abstract analysis.

Using industry approved assessments, and a warm, empathetic and thoughtful approach I help people with life long concentration and attention difficulties as well as those who find talking with others draining and confusing work out if ADHD or Autistic Spectrum Condition (Asperger’s Syndrome) makes sense as a useful description for these differences.
What if you knew why you felt different from everyone else? What if you knew why your brain wrecked, your concentration? Job? Relationships? Do you often feel like there was a class on starting, maintaining and ending conversation but you missed it? Do you feel overwhelmed if there is too much noise or too many people talking at once? Or maybe you HAVE to do something and that you cannot just relax and do absolutely nothing? Do you feel physically exhausted but you mind is still racing and will not let you sleep? If this sounds familiar and you are looking to understanding why this happens, then I might be able to help.

I've worked with individuals with ADHD, autism, and neurodiverse ways of being for 15 years.
I work with people who are trying to making sense of their place in the world, trying to answer questions of meaning, purpose and identity. If you're considering therapy, you may know what you want to work on, but feel stuck, frustrated, or in need of some support. You may know that something's not right but not know where to start. This may coincide with feelings of anxiety, depression, stress, or burn out. Psychotherapy is a space for you to discuss what's on your mind in a non-judgemental collaborative setting. This is a chance for you to tell your story, and make sense of what it means.

The clients I normally see are the people that the usual templates don't often work for, I like working with people to focus on them as an individual and will never want people to think that their problems don't fit the "right model". I will use all of my knowledge, skills and attitudes to tailor treatment to meet your goals and needs. Sometimes people know something is "wrong" or find certain things challenging but may not be sure why, I look to work with people to explore this and find a helpful way of moving forward.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
