Therapy is a relational and collaborative process. My aim is to create a safe and respectful space where you can explore both your struggles and your potential. Often, the parts of us that need healing the most are also the most protective guarding us against further hurt. In therapy, we can begin to gently build trust with these parts, so they no longer have to carry the burden alone.

You might be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that keep repeating despite everything you’ve tried to change. For some people this shows up as anxiety, panic attacks, a harsh internal voice, persistent stress, or perfectionism that never seems to let up. Others come carrying the impact of trauma, emotional or sexual abuse, or attachment wounds that began long before they had language for what was happening. Depression, low self-worth, loneliness, and self-harm can emerge when there hasn’t been a safe place for difficult feelings to go.

Back in the nineties when I went to my first counselling session when it seemed the only option left that I could face. In the UK back then ‘therapy’ was almost taboo and I was scared to tell a soul. Thank goodness I quickly felt safe enough to confide in my counsellor and to share with her my deepest fears for my sanity, my marriage, my high pressure job and indeed, my future (if there was to be one). I can’t remember too much about those sessions now but I always felt better just for having shared. Nowadays through counselling I help people to find and to love their inner selves, to handle whatever life throws at them and to grow.

My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, combining exploration, somatic awareness and gentle challenge to help you understand and change patterns that no longer serve you.
Striving to appear capable and together on the outside, yet privately feeling stuck, unsettled, or caught in patterns you don’t fully understand? Perhaps you keep repeating something in relationships, avoid difficult conversations, react in ways you later regret, or know what you should do, yet find you can’t actually do it. You may be carrying self-doubt, conflict, exhaustion, or a quiet sense that familiar ways of coping are no longer enough. Often these struggles are not signs of something wrong with you, but may reflect the effects of trauma, or patterns from earlier experiences including late ADHD diagnosis or boarding school.

How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
